So my family has been coming to Charleston annually for many years. We've gone on several different tours, but this one was quite different than the rest. Our tour guide, Suzanne, did a wonderful job at keeping us interested. She was quite detailed about the history of the jail, which to some could be boring, but with Charleston being so rich in history, I felt it was a very important part in this tour. While on the tour, when walking down the stairs to go to the basement, we were welcome by a swift cool breeze. We weren't really sure where it was coming from since the air is quite still in the jail & so thick you could probably cut it with a knife & warm (hence the reason they sell water before entering the tour). As the very cool breeze blasted past us, my boyfriend managed to take a picture from the top of the steps directly down to the doorway to the basement. If there was a way to upload the picture, I would. There is a person, whom looks like a soldier, standing in the doorway. Even after the breeze has stopped & we were in the basement, my shirt continued to move as though the breeze was still whizzing past me, but the breeze had stopped moments before. For whatever reason, not once did any of my family (nor I) get scared. Infact, we felt quite calm & at ease throughout the tour (myself even being comfortable enough to stay behind in some of the cells as the tour walked on). This was a very interesting experience & I would recommend it to anyone with an open mind. My boyfriend (who never believes in this kind of phenomenon) walked away a little more convinced that its possible. Who woulda thunk? |

Informative, but should have included more access

The tour guide was excellent, and very informative; however, I felt like the jail tour was too short in regards to how many areas of the jail in which we where granted access to. It was great for the purpose of learning the history of the jail, but the scare factor was not as impressive. Perhaps if they allowed you to view a broader area of the overall jail in general, it would have been worth the money spent. |

This tour is NOT worth the $18 and the tour guide we had was a total witch! It was NOT scarey and was actually kind of hokie with some of the goofy stuff the guide did. Alot of the jail isn't even in its original form. Definitely not worth the 7 block walk to get there nor the $18! I don't recommend it. |

My little sis and I enjoyed the tour. It wasn't as much historical ghost stories like we are used to on ghost tours though.... it seemed to be almost more like a s'eance. Lots of people on the tour took pictures and we definitely saw some orbs. Spooky!! |

This tour was fun although not very scary. If you take this tour I recommend you take it at night. The atmosphere is creepy but the stories told on the tour are more about the history of the jail rather than any sighting or ghostly stories. If you love history & are looking for creepy atmosphere then I advise you to take this tour. |

Our tour was at 9:30pm, in the dark and the rain - a fitting setting. Our tour guide was interesting, had many gruesome tales, talked about ghost interaction experiences at the jail , but did not frighten us. I would recommend the tour to anyone who has not yet seen the jail, but do not expect a terrifying experience. |

My husband and I have been talking about taking one of the tours and finally did it, it was very informative. The history that you learn was really interesting and the guide was very informative and shared some of his encounters which made it even more interesting.
I took tons of pictures inside and out and will tell you the spirits are there!! I have so many orbs on most and in many different areas for example, as we were standing by the stairs and everyone was filing in a room I turned back and took a picture of the stairs as they were very unique and when I looked at the screen there was a large bright orb at the top, I showed my husband and turned back around jokingly I said "say cheese" and took another one and would you believe, it moved down to the 4th step only a few steps from me!!! Yes, I was a bit freaked out but enjoyed every minute of it!!
The only thing I would recommend is when you do the night tours to bring bug spray as they eat you up outside while waiting. |

Our guide was Suzanne and she was great, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I managed to capture several orbs in some of my photos of when we toured some rooms of the jail. This one was the most scariest and pretty eerie out of the other ghost tours I've been on in Charleston. Def. would recommend this one! |
