Fun and spooky date night!

This tour was a fun way to take in more history of the city. By going at dark, the jail seemed even more scary. Susanne, the tour guide was very knowledgeable and seemed to take the hauntedness very seriously which made it more believable. I recommend taking a bike tour ride back to downtown, especially at nighttime.

Hot and dark- has potential to be better

I was ready for the tour to be over after 5 minutes. The temperature was way too hot, very uncomfortable- I think people should be warned in advance of buying the tickets of this prospect. It was too dark- it was difficult to see my way going down the stairs and didn't seem at all safe. Once in the rooms, it was pitch black. Being so hot and being able to see very little (except other peoples camera flashes in my face), I just didn't get much out of the experience.....it was a big distraction that prevented me from listening to the guide. I would suggest the use of candles or some other type of dim lighting. Also, there were "modern day" items (a hand-cart, some hammers and caulking) scattered throughout the jail that could be removed to make the experience more authentic. In terms of the temperature, I realize the use of fans would take away from the experience, so some honest information up front about the temperature would be very appreciated!

The tour guide was more interested in telling us which paranormal group had been there than telling the history of the jail

Fun & Only Mildly Creepy -

This was a fun, informative tour. We deliberately took it later at night in hopes of seeing a shadow, etc. but no such luck. The tour guide was very educated in Chareleston & SC history and a great story-teller. All the photo flashes of our group probably took away some of the eerie potential, and we were limited to visiting the basement when we would have liked to have visited the upper floors, but overall this was a great tour.

This is the third tour that I've taken with Bulldog Tours. I had taken the Ghosts and Gravestones tour a few years ago when I first visited Charleston. I loved it so when I found myself in town again for a short period of time I make sure to come back to take the other tours. I was short on time so I took the Ghosts and Dungeon tour at 7 PM and the Jail tour at 9 PM. It was a fast walk between where the Dungeon tour ended and the Jail but Bulldog gave me a good map. I arrived only about 5 minutes early for the tour. The jail is located in an area of town that is not as privileged as other areas as Charleston. The building is forboding. Suzann was our tour guide. She runs a very strict tour. We had some pre-teens on the tour who were apt to ask questions in rapid fire succession and talk on their cell phones. She delt with the situation quickly but a bit abruptly. I was happy that she did it but it was also a bit offputting. Her delivery of the stories and information was a bit sensational which for me distracts from the tour. If you like a tour where the guide trys to scare you then you'll love it. I prefer to hear the story, the supernatural activity and the research that has been done in a less theatrical manner but I suspect that I'm probably in the minority. The building itself is rather imposing. It is in the middle of a renovation right now but it was possible to imagine how difficult it must have been to spend time there (a drastic understatement). Nothing paranormal happened on the tour but I actually wasn't expecting anything to happen so I wasn't disapointed. All in all this was an interesting tour and I'd recommend it although I don't think it is the best of the tours offered by Bulldog.

This is a very good tour. Our guide, Susan, was very well rounded on the history of the jail. She pointed out at the beginning of the tour that it was a historical tour, not a tour to scare you... So don't expect any evil clowns or Freddy Kruegers to come jumping out at you. We were told that this is the best ghost tour in Charleston and my wife and I fully agree. Don't forget to bring your camera... you won't regret it.

Eli was an awesome guide. I've done a few of the Ghost tours thru Bulldog and he has been the best guide so far. This is a cool place to visit!

The tour guide (Ginger) was very knowledgeable about the tour and a good story teller. There was another group on the property (part of the school that actually owns the property) and they were building things and playing music which was distracting from the tour and sort of put a damper on the atmosphere. I would recommend going on a later tour (after 8:00 pm) to avoid these distractions and have the added benefit of a spooky tour after dark.

The Charleston Haunted Jail Tour, Worth It!

We had a great time during the tour and got a lot of neat pictures ( no ghosts, though ). The tour guide (I can't remeber his name) was very knowledgable and seemed to have a good time while with us. The only thing that was a little dissapointing was the time factor. I really thought the tour would last longer than it did and we would have a little more time to take pictures, but it seems that we had to hurry through to make room for the next tour coming in. Over all, I give the guide a 10 for 10 and the tour itself a 8 for 10. Had a great time, it just didn't last long enough.
