my husband and I were looking forward to our ghost tour of the jail for weeks. When we arrived in Charleston we went to Bulldog office and recieved our tickets and directions. Later that night we started walking to the jail to meet our group. We walked through dark streets and what they fail to tell you is that the jail is in the projects. We were half way there, no other people were around, we got nervous and turned around. We went back to Bulldog tours and voiced our concerns and they did offer to let us go on a differant tour that night. We were going to accept but our shuttle did not run that late. We were out $36 but saftey comes first. All the other tours met at Bulldog office and walked to there destinations in big groups. Why the jail tour does not i don't know.

My husband and myself took the jailhouse tour on a Sunday evening. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and had great stories. We got a spook when we heard what sounded like a chain dragging in one the rooms. We also got pictures of some spirits. The tours was very interesting as well as entertaining.

The jail itselt was pretty creepy; however, we thought that there would be creepy "monsters" hanging around, some special effects., etc. The story teller was very good. We went on a Sunday night; apparently there were no students in the basement sawing away, so Sunday must be a good night to go. The only real complaint we had was that we walked six blocks to get to the jail. It would have been better if a shuttle was there at the Bulldog office to take us to the jail because once there, the surrounding area didn't look very safe. JP

All in all the tour was great, and the guide was one of the best that I have ever had on a ghost walk. The only problem was that we had to wait out front (before the tour started) for longer then the tour actually lasted.

We had a very good guide, Lawrence, who did a great job making the tour interesting. He was well informed and comfortable. I wish it had a little more spookyness to it. Sound effects or something really could have made a big difference. I went with my sisters who were visiting from Maine. They really enjoyed the stories and the history lesson.

The guide didn't let us mill around very much at all, I was lucky to have time to take two pictures. All I got in my pictures was a bunch of "Orbs"(bugs, moisture in the air) . It was like.... here are the stories, now lets head out another tour will be coming in soon. I was also disappointed that they aren't doing the Halloween Haunted Jailhouse version of the Haunted Jail for the 2nd year in a row. It took me 4 people to ask before someone would even talk to me about this, I even offered my help to pull it off but he just walked away from me in disgust that I would even talk to him about helping out. The jail is very interesting in ITSELF, but I wasn't happy with the employees that are running people thru the jail like herds of cattle. I will recommend it to others ONLY because there is nothing else to compare it to in Charleston, it just could be ran much better. Thanks

We really enjoyed the tour, it was a lot of history and spooky facts and a great guide. I really wish we could have seen more of the jail and had more time in there. I loved the stories and the oldnest of the jail. I wish they also offered a daytime for those who get a night tour, after so you can see the history of the tour. Will go back and recommend.

This tour was really really cool, and the tourguide was great! I actually got some really weird things in the pictures I took of the jail, including orbs and even something that looks like a cape passing through the wall!! Highly recommend this tour-- also, the walk to the jail is really pretty!

We really enjoyed this tour, except for the noise and distraction of the art students downstairs. The hammering, sawing, bright lights, etc really took away from the experience. Sometimes it was hard to hear the tour guide over the noise. It would have been better if it was quiet with no lights to get the full experience. The jail itself is a creepy old building, but the tour is not scary. I would recommend to anyone to get an idea of the history, living conditions, etc. We even got some "orbs" in some of our photos. I think it would be cool if they had at least one of the rooms set up to look like it would have at that time. Most of the rooms were just big dark open empty areas. We enjoyed hearing the stories of some of the criminals that were held there.
