Our tour guide, Suzanne, was great. She was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, friendly, and fun. This was our first time in Charleston and we thoroughly enjoyed the tour.

The ticket price was a little too high for basically a walkthrough of the place.

This tour was nice to see the history behind the jail and part of Charlestons history. However it was a little creepy that the walls had to be braced in order for people to enter into the building, I was afraid it was going to fall in on use. We did not experience anything, however I was a little freaked out when the lady leading the tour said people had been possessed and followed from the tour.

The jail was pretty awesome but not really that scarey. It was 9 pm and no lights on so it was creepy. The tour guide was an excellent story teller and kept our attention. Not the scariest tour but fun. Walking to and from the jail at night was the creepier thing!

Boring

This tour was was too much money for a very boring tour. Plus the place was way to hot and stuffy, some big fans would have been a plus. The jail was not scary in the slightest and I would not recommend it to anyone. I wish we could get that hour back of our lives that was wasted.

Suzann provided an excellent tour of the old jail. She was well informed and explained the history of the jail in a way that kept everyones attention. Very good tour and I recommend it as one of the best of Charleston.

Unimpressed

We heard that this was the best ghost tour in town, so naturally we tried it first. While the scene of the City Jail held a great deal of potential, the presentation was very poor. The jail is undergoing constant reconstruction, as it was originally condemned, but there appears to be little effort to separate the construction from the tour path. As a result, it is VERY difficult to "see" how the Jail used to be. The tour guide was nice and somewhat informed of the history, but a VERY poor storyteller. I felt like the stories would have been appropriate for a high school class, not an adult tour. The group was small enough not to be a distraction, but the constant flash photography completely ruined the intended "scariness" of the experience. As a result, my wife and I were very unimpressed. Don't go here to be scared, it's just not set up for it. Like I said, it was a reasonably good History Walk, a really bad Ghost Tour.
