The ghost jail tour guide we had was exceptional at her job. She got me hooked on the tour before we even set foot inside the jail house. She was passionate about telling the story and setting the stage for us. To be honest I couldn't have had any more anticipation to actually get inside the jail house and start the inside tour. In the end though I was a little dissapointed with the inside tour. I was genuinely never really scared at any point, and neither was my date. I was one of the few snapping pictures constantly to try and capture any ghostly images on camera, and we didn't have a single image come out ghost positive. I am SURE that if I had caught something on camera though I would be singing a completely different tune!
I think if there was a wall of ghost pictures placed outside the tour start location, where tourists could see all the ghost images over time, it would be highly beneficial towards making you believe you will really be in a jail house with ghosts. Because I didn't capture anything on film it made me wonder how true the previous ghost accounts were....even with a guide who did a great job convincing me ghosts often are felt or pictured within the jail.

I think the area the jail was in was a little scarier than the jail itself (at least at night). Be prepared in the summer because there is no air conditioning inside. It was hot. I don't doubt there are spirits there as a few people did seem to get some orbs and energy rods in their pictures afterwards, but I certainly didn't see anything during the tour itself. The tour guide knew her history, but she got a little cheesy at times with trying to create this scary mood. It made me laugh more than it scared me. She also kept pacing around so much it was making me dizzy. I think I expected something a little scarier, but if you are more interested in the history of the jail, you might find it worthwhile. |

This tour was outstanding! It was eery and creepy, and we loved it! Our guide was wonderful. It was obvious that she had done lots of research on the jail. She had the perfect personality and presentation for this tour. I would recommend it to everyone visiting Charleston. When we go back we are going again!! |

I've been on several jail tours in a few countries which were all amazing. I was so looking forward to this one as I had read nothing but rave reviews. I was even a little nervous that my husband who does not like ghost things was going to hate it as they said it was quite scary.
It wasnt even close. They didnt tell you any stories about individual people that died at the jail or where supposed to haunt it. It was all generic and more historical about how the jail operated. It wasnt haunted stories at all. It was more factual than scary.
Yeah at night the building is creepy but there are lights in it which make it not so creepy - during the day it must be a bore to see.
I would skip if you are looking for scary |

My husband and I loved the tour of the jail. We are people that are not easily scared but I can say that we both had a shiver when arriving at the jail the night of our tour. Our tour guide was great and we both had a wonderful time learning the history of the jail. GREAT JOB!!!!! |

....... the walk from the parking deck off King St. to the Jail and back.
I would consider myself as one who has a keen sense of the spirit world. My husband would just say that I spoke very easily.
This was very disappointing to me. I felt they could of lit some candles or told stories about why it's known for being haunted. Our tour guide was nice and seemed to be very knologable, however; I was very bored with the cheesy
story lines in between our history lesson
and looking around at our group, I could tell they were too.
Honestly..if there were any spirits there, I would of felt them.
We felt scammed out of $32. |

We were there in August so it was extremely hot! Our tour guide would close the doors and I thought I would pass out from the heat. There was nothing scary at all in the tour. But if nothing else, it was a history lesson. I would have liked to see more of the jail, but college students are working on it, so we only went into a couple of rooms. I dont know how they know such details about the history of the jail if it has been closed for 60 years. But all in all, it was fun. |

I enjoy history very much and the guide seemed to know what she was talking about. I guess she could have made it a little more scary, but I'm sure that varies from guide to guide. My girlfriend liked it and swears that she has some floating orbs (spirits) on a few pictures that she took. I'm sure it would be scary for someone who is easily spooked. Overall, however, it was a neat experience and the jail itself is pretty creepy. Nobody ever survived for more that 2 months in the jail. That's crazy!! |

We had hoped for a little more in depth story telling about sightings and occurrences at the jail. It was, despite this, a fun evening and would do again with out of town guests. |

I was on a quick visit to Charleston with my college-student daughter, and we decided to take the Tour of the Old Jail. The tour began on time and presented a lot of interesting information, and we enjoyed ourselves. This tour, as well as others we have been on in Charleston, could have been improved if the college-student type delivery by the tour leader could have been more dramatic. Maybe the company needs to hire students from the drama department who can put a little more "oomph" into their story-telling. But we recommend the tour, anyway. |
