History is Scarier than Fiction

It's one thing to read about ghost stories, but to walk through the story and physically see how it unfolded is a completely different and incredible experience. The amount of brutality that took place both inside and outside the Jail walls was shocking. The tour guide was great, and everyone was having an awesome time. I was hoping to get a picture of a ghost roaming the halls, but maybe I'll have better luck next on my next visit!

excellent guide

The tour guide we had was excellent. He was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the tour. He also spike loudly and clearly enough to be heard (which is very important). The jail was neat to be in, but the modern things left laying around (school projects, etc...) brought you back from the past and into the present. I would definitely recommend this short tour.

Ghost tour not too Ghostly

Our tour guide just gave us a history lesson. We signed up for a ghost tour, promised scary stories; what we got were facts about the building. The jail itself was very creepy and interesting. This wasn't my first time in the jail, my last tour through Bulldog Tours was much better and scarier (a few years ago.) We wouldn't recommend this tour if you're looking for a thrill.

Very disappointed with the jail tour

I was extremely disappointed in the jail tour. There was not much to see on the tour and the 3 rooms we did see were not kept to the original. There is a college for preservation now located inside the jail so there were props and other equipment within the rooms not original to the jail. This distracts from the history of the jail. The stories of the history were very bland and bordered on boring. Save the bucks; spend it somewhere else.

My friends and I were excited to do this tour, the information on the history of the City Jail was great, however we decided to book the 9p.m. tour and wish we had booked the 10p.m. because our tour got rushed through the jai,l was not happy at all about that....will do other tours with bulldog....but will book the last tour of the night and hope for a better outcome......my friends and I did get some good pictures.....

Had a lot of fun with the ghost tour. I had a few friends in town and they wanted to do a tour of the haunted jail. They had a blast! Our tour guide was awesome! There were also reinactments going on in regards to the civil war. I thought that was great too!

Great Time in Charleston

Stayed in Myrtle beach and drove in for the day on July 17. We toured around Charleston and went to the Haunted Prison that evening. Perfect day for haunted jail tour being it was thundering and raining. Our tour guide was great and he really knew his stuff(history of the prison) when touring us through the old prison. Even though we didn't see a ghost(lol) we still had a great time. You will gather some interesting history when touring. I recommend if someone enjoys history.

Great guide but the tour was too fast; it felt rushed and it would have been better with even 15 more minutes.

You might not sleep well

You may want some extra company in your room the night after taking this tour through the haunted jail. Our guide provided a good mix of history and ghost stories that resulted in plenty of shivers to go around. Not recommended for young children of course... but even the adults may have a hard time sleeping after this one. The tour did seem short but I guess time just fly by and it was over before we knew it. If you have never seen or read about this landmark, its got an interesting history and makes a good addition to your trip to Charleston.
