Not only do you visit top-notch restaurants, but you also learn a lot about Charleston culture and cuisine! Chefs we visited were interesting to talk to and highly regarded within the food industry! Our tour guide, Hoon Calhoun, was not only entertaining, but also a fabulous storyteller! He has roots in Charleston and is very knowledgeable about the history of the city, as well as the importance of the slaves to Charleston's success. You won't be disappointed!

The tour guide, Hoon Calhoun, was very personable and knowledgeable, with lots of insights and stories. Enjoyed the food samples at each stop. I expected more time in the kitchens, but each chef shared lots of information on what their job actually entailed, and the business side of running a restaurant. Overall very enjoyable.

Superb tour with Hoon
Fri, May 10  9:20 AM khall222 Male 60-69 International Tourist(s) Family Without Children
We saw this tour recommended in The Sunday Times in UK and it more than lived up to its star billing. Hoon Calhoun , our guide not only gave an enthusiastic tour of the kitchens of Charleston but also included a lot of the history of the area to put everything in context. It's only on Fridays so arrange your trip around this tour !!

Make sure "Hoon" Calhoun is your tour guide and the culinary word of Charleston, SC will open up to you. Hoon is a great place to start your history of the south through food and culture tour! He will give you his nuggets along the way and you will be ever greatful. The experience of talking with legendary Chef's from classic, market changing restaurants will blow your mind. And they feed you too! Great tour, one I will be on again!

We knew this was going to be a good tour. We just didn't know how good. The history, stories and engaging personality of the tour guide "Hoon" Calhoon had us feeling like the tour was planned just special for us. The tour guide loves doing this and is very passionate about his cities history. This is indeed, well worth your time. We were not able to finish the sample size foods each place we went because they were very generous. Thank you Hoon for such a wonderful time!

This tour was more than we bargained for. The information we received from the tour guide and the restaurant chefs was amazing. We went back to one of the restaurants to eat dinner, because we were more than impressed with the chef.

A WONDERFUL Experience!

Our tour guide Cathy was delightful. The chefs were incredibly engaging, and the food was awesome! If you have taken all the traditional tours in Charleston and are looking for something different to do here, this is for you! Charleston is a foodie town, and this tour helps you to understand the roots behind that more thoroughly. The time flies by as you learn and enjoy. These chefs really help you to understand what it means to buy local, eat local; what it means to eat seasonally; what it means to eat "Southern." Just can't say enough good things about this tour! We are so glad that we took it!

I heard about this tour in the Charleston magazine and the write up was so good it made me want to try it. Our tour guide was fun and the restaurants seemed glad to have us visit. I learned a lot about the inner workings of the restaurants and how much work goes into preparing the food. Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone! This is not to be missed on your stay!

I can't imagine doing this tour with anyone but Hoon. He was amazing, intertwining history with humor, personal stories, recipes and current information. One minute you were laughing so hard the next listening with such intent to not miss a thing he had to say about the restaurant scene in Charleston and the South. I've already alerted my brother and sister in law to take this tour when they visit in May and be sure to make sure it's with Hoon. The restaurants allowed us a real behind the scenes look and the food samplings were delicious. I'm now a grits fan and the sweetened ice tea was special. Chef Drake imparted enthusiasm and wisdom on a range of restaurant subjects from culinary practice to financial insights. A most enjoyable morning. and the sweet tea with the Carolina distilled additive ain't bad either! Chef Drake in particular was superb. I learned a lot about the inner workings of the business and to hear someone retain his enthusiasm after 20+ years in the business, well it shows.Thank You for a great morning you so much for a most enjoyable morning.
