Chef's Kitchen Tours of Charleston

We loved this 2.5 hours all of us in the group of 5 said they would take the tour again. Bravo to the Chefs who really gave us the inside expert point of view about running a restaurant in Charleston and their common opinion about buying locally grown and sustainable foods. It was a real pleasure and I have told everyone to buy the cookbooks of the restaurants we toured! The restaurants also were very generous with their samples and made us very comfortable.

The Chef's Kitchen Tour was fantastic! The passion that the Charleston chefs have for their art of cooking is amazing and really stood out during the tour! We learned about Charleston's culinary history and present, and how they are coming together. Our guide, Hoon Calhoun, did an excellent and entertaining job during the tour. I would definitely go again! There is a good bit of walking on the old Charleston streets, and some stairs, so be prepared for that if you have any mobility issues.

Great insight into the chef's side of a Charleston fine dining establishment. We only heard from one head chef as others were not available and sou chefs/assistants took their place. The head chef at Cypress was great...he even took us into the meat prep room and storage locker to explain how they use as much of the entire animal as possible. The samples of pimento cheese and shrimp. sausage and grits at Magnolias was an unexpected but delicious surprise! Took a little longer than the stated 2.5 hours so don't try to "squeeze" it into your day.

We took the Chef's tour on a recent trip to Charleston and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our guide, Cathy, was delightful and very informative about the history of some of the foods of the South. We were able to meet several chefs at some great restaurants. They gave us a inside look at what goes on in their kitchens. Very interesting. We were able to sample some of the foods they serve in their restaurants. We actually returned to several of the restaurants during the remainder of our trip to taste more of their great food. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting the wonderful city of Charleston. A very fun way to see a part of the city.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed both the kitchen tour, interacting with the chefs, and our tour guide, Hoon Calhoun. The entire tour was both entertaining and very informative. We highly recommend it!

Anyone who is interested in history or food will enjoy this fascinating behind the scenes look at some of Charleston's finest restaurants. Our guide Hoon was wonderful as he artfully guided us through the town, the chef's we visited were gracious and generous with their time and talents, and a special treat to sample some of the food that brings in diners to their tables. The tour exceeded our expectations, and is a unique perspective that will fascinate and delight. We will be taking this tour again!

He will give you his nuggets along the way and you will be ever greatful. The experience of talking with legendary Chef's from classic, market changing restaurants will blow your mind.
