I have enjoyed this culinary tour on two different occasions, with two different tour guides, and both times I felt it was one of the best Charleston tours offered. Each time the guides were knowledgable and their delivery of information was enjoyable. The places of interest were diverse and provided a fantastic overview of Charleston and its cuisine over the years. Wonderful, and worth the repeat performance! |

Lively , informative and colorful guide who provided important historical context. A region's food is not simply about the techniques, it is also about the influences which produced it, and this tour explored both. Loved it. |

I've experienced one other food tour, in Philadelphia and I REALLY enjoyed that one... this one was a notch below. That's the reason for the 4 star rating instead of a full 5 stars. There were a couple stops on the tour that seemed to be more focused on retail than on tasting 'Charleston' cuisine. Also, I would have liked to have a bit more history introduced into the narrative of the tour. Finally, the route we took to arrive at the various venue's was so circular that it was difficult to find our way back to them if we wanted to return later. The tour leader was very friendly and cheery.
Bottom line, it might be a bit over-priced, but if you have a free morning, it's a nice way to spend some time. |

Great tour leader and a fun tour that combined history and good food. It is a lot of walking if it is hot out, so be prepared. Find out about great restaurants and get a taste of Charleston food. I wish we spent more time at some of the "shopping" locations. |

The tour guide was truly interesting, energetic and enthusiastic, despite it being so hot that you could melt. We heard a lot of very interesting stories, she made the whole experience very interactive and spent all the time we wanted answering our questions. We were able to sample authentic stone-ground grits (which I purchased before leaving town), sweet tea, low-country cuisine and then ended up at a marvelous seafood house where we had a great lunch and more sweet tea. I never used to like sweet tea but I came to love it and am disappointed that it isn't more readily available where I am. I heartily recommend anyone from outside of Charleston (or even inside...we had one gentleman who was a life-long resident of the city on the tour) to take this tour as it will be a very enjoyable and memorable experience. |

What a great adventure for learning about the Charleston area. A little history, a bite to eat, a little history, a bite to eat, time to check out neat kitchen gadgets, a little history, a few spices and teas to sample then a stop at some of the finest candy samples ever, then a bit more history and ending with another snack of Carolina bar-b-que!
Truly enjoyed eating and learning and also finding some great places to go back for a full meal. A must tour and will come back again!!! |

My friend and I went to Charleston for a girls weekend, and participated in the tour with Fran as a tour guide. Even thought it was hot as the dickens, we had an absolutely lovely time! Fran knew food history and local color, making all the stops on the tour relevant and interesting, as well as delicious! I highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Charleston. |
