Great intro to Charleston food & restaurants!

Myself (local) and my best friend (international) went on this tour on the 2nd day of her visit. It was a GREAT introduction to the different Charleston food variety, restaurants, and food related shops. We were able to identify different restaurants to go to based on what we tasted during this tour. The tour was paced perfectly (not too fast, not too slow) and we loved our very classy tour guide. I would recommend to locals & tourists!!

Enjoying the History of Charleston through Food

Came to Charleston with a group of friends. The tour was not only fun but very, but educational. The group was small enough for lots of personal interaction and our guide was very knowledgeable. We learned a lot about the history of Charleston in a most delightful way, learning about many great restaurants along the way. The assortment of places we stopped were "just right", and the food delicious. I would whole heartily recommend this tour!

Fun walking history tour with small tastings along the way. Made us wish we had more time in Charleston. Only feedback would be more tastings but otherwise a delightful day.

I had a lot of fun and had a lot of interesting experiences. I found a very good place to eat and several places I will return to when I come back to Charleston. Everyone should try this tour at least once if you are not from Charleston.

better than I anticipated

From the previous reviews, I was concerned. But I thoroughly enjoyed the tour...except for the owner of one of the shops. She seemed to be all about herself...I'll leave it up to you to figure out which stop it was! :) My only suggestion is not to eat before the tour. The website recommended it but I was not able to eat alot of the food...and I'm not a pansy eater! Our tour guide was wonderful...a real genteel southern belle.

What about the restaurants and Charleston cooking?

A spice shop franchise from St. Augustine, FL and a shop specializing in Virginia peanuts?! We had grits, wandered around the historic and market area going "[pointing] FILL IN THE BLANK is a nice restaurant," and finished with collards and fried green tomatoes. How do you call that a culinary tour? See that beautiful shrimp on the website - never saw it on the tour! The oyster stew in the recipe brochure - nope! Crab - no. Gumbo - uh uh. A pilou - nada. Pick out a few historic area restaurants from TripAdvisor, go to the bar, and split a different starter at each one. Buy a history book. You'll get a much, much better taste of Charleston and might spend less $.

Fran was an excellent hostess and very informative. We really enjoyed all the places she took us to. Would highly recommend this food tour to anyone. The tour started on time and ended when it was supposed to. Can't say enough about it. Thanks again! Tresa Cleland

Fabulous, a Must to Taste

Excellent, educational, a good sampling of Southern cuisine. With the pralines being the first stop, it left a sweet taste for the grits, etc. that followed; perhaps the Sweet Shop could be the last stop rather than the first. Nancy, the tour guide, did an excellent job. It was fun meeting the other tourist participants and interacting with them about their local cuisines elsewhere.
