Walking is the best way to see historic Charleston
Fri, May 17  2:00 PM taylordl Female 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
Very knowledgeable guide with a good ability to make history come alive. Good walking pace and flexible "script" to appeal to a varied audience. Suggestion: Bring water during hot weather - our tour was at 2 pm and it was 90 degrees and humid.

Had a great time.

Enjoyed the tour very much very informative. Only negative is wish we had a longer time to explore the jail to take pictures. 45 minutes just didn't seem like enough time. Enjoyed the experience overall thought and would do it again.

Loved the Dark Side of Charleston tour!! Sad that it was only 90 minutes because I'm sure there are a ton of stories!! Our tour guide was great and an awesome story teller. Would definitely recommend.

Historic Paranormal Cocktail
Wed, May 15  7:00 PM Jkijorski Female 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
Our tour guide Glen was very enthusiastic and provided copious amounts of historic accounts of the events that took place in the jail. I would definitely take this tour again, especially the 10 o'clock since I did the 7 o'clock. As a historic preservation student it's great to see the effort being put forth to preserve such a gem. I recommend this to anyone visiting or even living in/near Charleston!

Informative & a "front row seat" to Charleston
Mon, May 13  10:00 AM Margaret9 Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
A charming and well informed tour guide pleasantly led us around historic Charleston and we fell in love with the city even more! It was a pleasant two hour walk, but I could easily have done four hours.

Great Tour!

My friend and I took the haunted jail tour. We were early for our group and they were able to get us in a earlier tour which we really appreciated. The tour was a mixture of families, friends, and couples. It was a smaller group. The tour guide was very good. He was a great storyteller. I would recommend anyone who enjoys history and has an open mind to take this tour!

Great Story Teller
Fri, May 10  9:00 PM the4floyds Female 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
The guide we had really enjoyed his job. You could tell that he loved and believed every word that he said. Each story was detailed and passionate. He also had a deep knowledge of the area, both historical and mythical. The walk was entertaining, informational and slightly creepy. I would go again. The dungeon was awesome. The craftmanship of the building is incredible and worth the trip. Besides, knowing that the Patriots that fought for our country were housed as prisoners there and likely tortured in the squallor makes it that much more haunting.

Superb tour with Hoon
Fri, May 10  9:20 AM khall222 Male 60-69 International Tourist(s) Family Without Children
We saw this tour recommended in The Sunday Times in UK and it more than lived up to its star billing. Hoon Calhoun , our guide not only gave an enthusiastic tour of the kitchens of Charleston but also included a lot of the history of the area to put everything in context. It's only on Fridays so arrange your trip around this tour !!

Fantastic is the only word to describe this tour!
Fri, May 10  9:20 AM navemates Male 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
Make sure "Hoon" Calhoun is your tour guide and the culinary word of Charleston, SC will open up to you. Hoon is a great place to start your history of the south through food and culture tour! He will give you his nuggets along the way and you will be ever greatful. The experience of talking with legendary Chef's from classic, market changing restaurants will blow your mind. And they feed you too! Great tour, one I will be on again!

Our guide was a knowledgeable, compelling speaker, and very respectful of the jail's history. We'd love to do another tour soon!

Charleston History in a Nutshell
Sun, May 5  10:00 AM twizere Female 70+ Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
Our guide Faith worked hard to present her detailed info under difficult circumstances. Why don't you schedule this Sunday walking tour either earlier or later so your guests don't have to put up with the multi ringing church bells??? Very annoying and distracting when the guide is giving good and worthwhile information. She was doing it in the rain, on top of everything else, and we certainly didn't need St. Michael's bells banging away!

Historic and Enlightening
Fri, May 3  8:00 PM kswanger Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
Hubby and I really enjoyed this adult tour. Our tour guide, Susan, told true stories not in mainstream history of Charleston. She was engaging, and truthful, but not vulgar in her storytelling. There were stories of brothels, prostitution, a prominent gangster, and other stories that the city is not proud of. I especially liked the story of the turkey buzzards called the "Charleston Eagles", and the funeral of one notorious Madame. The walking tour is at night, and is about 90 minutes, with many stops among various buildings, and points of interest. The walking is on level ground and relatively easy. This tour was one of the highlights of our visit.

This tour is guide-dependent
Fri, May 3  8:00 PM nkirsch Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
The concept is great, and we booked based on recommendation from local friends. But it seems this tour is all about the guide. Ours was too fast-spoken to understand, and emphasized her standing as a medium over her knowledge of local history, which is really the point afterall, isn't it? We were good sports, but were let down after all the great things we heard about these ghost tours.
