This tour was nice to see the history behind the jail and part of Charlestons history. However it was a little creepy that the walls had to be braced in order for people to enter into the building, I was afraid it was going to fall in on use. We did not experience anything, however I was a little freaked out when the lady leading the tour said people had been possessed and followed from the tour.

More like a history tour than a scary ghost tour

OK, but not worth $18.

After getting somewhat lost trying to find the location of the tour, we were very pleased our tour guide patiently awaited our arrival (only a few minutes, but non the less appreciated). Tour was informative, weather beautiful and subject information exciting. Very comfortable pace....bring water and comfy shoes!!

History was interesting

A lot of fluff about orbs was given but of course as I suspected none were seen on our tour. The history of the jail was impressive though and being able to walk back in time in this awful place really brought out the reality of what had taken place there. And for that I would recommend the tour. The art work did detract from the setting though and seemed very out of place.

Not worth the money.

The tour guide (Braxton, I think) was laid-back and funny. However, I did not feel the tour was worth the money and all the sweat. We pratically speed-walked the entire time and it was incredibly humid and uncomfortable. Since the tour is a commercial tour, guides are not allowed to take you into residential areas which is where a lot of the beautiful architecture and gardens are. If you know Charleston, you will know there is not much to look at if you are neither looking at architecture nor are along the water. The stories were entertaining enough, but not worth the price. The only real R-rated aspect of this tour was the deliberate use of curse words throughout the stories. I certainly did not feel I was "in the middle of" a murder, brothels or speakeasies. In fact, I was often "in the middle" of a parking lot, on the steps of Saks Fifth Avenue or packed into a random store's doorway. I would have rather gone on a different tour. My advice is to either check out the other tours available from Bulldog (whose service was great and whose facility was clean and air-conditioned) or just go on the boat tours and carriage rides instead.

AJ was our guide and did a great job describing in great detail how sinister the Old Jail was and still is. My daughter loved every moment of the tour. We can't wait to return and go on other tours.

Both my daughter and I had a great time wondering with our guide into some pretty creepy graveyards. Our guide was a retired teacher and was well versed in Charleston lore.

We took my son and five friends on the tour for his 12th birthday and they had a blast! Everyone brought cameras and they had so much fun taking pictures of the ghosts! The tour guide was great and we would do it again!!!!

Barbara was very sweet and upbeat and tried very hard to make us frightened- and it seems she succeeded with some! Very informative, I would certainly recommend it. She had some great stories to tell and gives one a different view of Charleston history.

Jennifer was fantastic

We had a very nice walking tour. Jennifer was a load of information and funny anecdotes. We so enjoyed seeing the little out of the way places and learning of the history of Charleston. I would not recommend for smaller children, and even teenagers would be bored unless they really like history. I would even do it again just for the nice walk and company.

We been to verious cities that have "Ghost" Tours available. We decided to try one in Charleston. We enjoyed it very much. Even if you don't believe in ghosts the tour provided information you wouldn't likely hear otherwise.

We enjoyed this a lot! Both my wife and I, as well as our 14 yr old had a great time. Our guide, Neal, was very knowledgable of the area and the local legends. If we would have been there longer than just 2 days we would have definately booked one of the other walks as well. A+!

Tour was good but...

I think that a disclaimer that pictures can be taken in the Dungeon should be mention several times at the beginning of the tour. Many in our group were despondent when later the guide mentioned to us about taking pictures at the end of the tour. Second, our guide (cannot remember her name) needs to lay off the following phrase: "With that in mind". It was so over used that by the end of the tour she had used it over hundred times. How do I know this? It became so droning that I began counting due to the huge distraction it was to everything she said. This is not some subtle critique for this guide, she really needs to cut it out or just stop giving tours. When the most memorable part of the tour is this phrase, it does not sell well for word of mouth recommendations or content of the history the tour provides.
