It was fun, but I wish we were able to see all the rooms in the jail. It felt very incomplete.

Interesting Ghost stories

Our tour guide was great and very knowledgeable. I was not quite as spooked as I would've liked to have been, but that could be because there was no eerie music playing in the background. However, my 9 year old son absolutely loved it and would definitely go again.

Very informative tour and I would recommend this to my friends who visit Charleston in the future. I plan to go on the Jail Tour next time I'm in town. Our guide was very informative and told many stories, as well as the historical facts of the buildings.

Enjoyable tour!

I recommend the haunted jail tour. It's a nice change of pace and something you will only see through Bulldog tours. The history is interesting and our tour guide did a great job. We could tell that she does her research and knows what she's talking about. It might be too scary for young children but I recommend for teens and up. I also enjoyed taking pictures and trying to get some "orbs" in them.

Good tour...seemed too short. And it would have been beetter, but unfortunately we didn't spot any ghosts that night. I would have also liked to hear more stories about the people that were there.

Great tour, wish we had more!

We enjoyed our guide - David, I believe his name was - and tour at 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31. We took the Ghosts & Graveyards tour. This was my second time on a Bulldog ghost tour and I liked this one better than the Dungeons tour. We also really liked that our guide was a Charleston native. We could tell that he enjoyed the history of the city and was involved in all the stories he told. My only complaint is that we wanted more! It would have been cool if we could have gone into more than one cemetery on the Graveyards tour. But overall, a well-recommended experience.

I definitely enjoyed it but of course was hoping to actually see some ghosts. It might be more fun if it was more interactive and people jumped out at you but that is just me I like having the crap scared out of me

It was interesting

I thought the tour wsa very informative concerning the history of Charleston. The dungeon was pretty cool. This is not a scary tour. It is more about hauntings that are said to be in some of the downtown buildings.

I have lived in Charleston for over 30 years and learned some new history. Our guide was very articulate, good paced tour and just the right size.

Not worth the time or money

The Hanted Jail Tour starts out with promise, the scary exterior and walls, the outergrounds. But the tour guide seemed to "recite" stories they read somewhere. The guide was not a good storyteller...and didn't really seem to be into her job. When inside the jail, you stand still in two rooms and listen to her talk for long periods of time. It's more like a history tour, which is still interesting, but you're there to try to "capture" something or at least spend time wandering around inside. At the beginning you stood still and the stories dragged on. Once you go downstairs, you are herded through quickly and then back outside in no time. Nothing to write home about.

Okay, but nothing great

Charleston is considered by many to be a very haunted city. As such, and for all the hype that Bulldog puts out, you'd expect to see something scary (other than the menu prices at the local restaurants). If you are a serious ghost hunter, or even half-way interested in a ghostly encounter, save your money. If you want a little exercise and to hear about some of Charleston's history, albeit in a paranormal vein, then go ahead and spend the money. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the local legends, but we never really got to go into any of the "haunted" places except the dungeon. And that was only for about 10 minutes. Okay, so it's a little spooky down there with the lights off. But there's no real talk about apparitions, orbs, mists, or EVP's (if you are unfamiliar with any of those terms, please watch one episode of Ghost Hunters on Sci-Fi), nor is there any attempt to get anything to manifest. Okay, I've already said it so I'll remind myself here for all of our sakes: this is not a ghost hunt! So, the old advise is the best advise: know what you want before you go. If you want to meet a ghost (or at least have a good chance of seeing something ghostly) contact a paranormal research team. If you are in Charleston for vacation and want to get a different version of local history, take the tour. Forewarned is forearmed.

Another tour guide may have improved the tour, but I would not recommend it. The ghost tour was somewhat interesting, but when your guide takes you to an alley and tells you the story behind it's "hauntings" and says he is too scared to go down it so we could come back on our own - it is 1) too cheesy if that is their standard line, and 2) ridiculous because that is what we paid for.
