Enjoyable and Informative

I really enjoyed my tour with Ruth. I learned so much and really enjoyed the walk. There is so much history in Charleston. In two hours, Ruth taught me much more than I could have ever known on my own. The route she chose was beautiful. This was my first visit to Charleston, and I definitely plan to return. I would definitely recommend this tour to friends and family. I bought a book that Ruth recommended on the history of Charleston because I enjoyed the tour and the city so much!!

Fun evening. Stories authentic but not scary. After reading prior reviews, I was prepared for "less than scary" night. I would recommend as you get to see parts of the city. We went back to some of the graveyards the next day to look around.

We enjoyed the tour very much. I took my 12 year old daughter and niece, and my 7 year old son. Our tour guide, Cathy, was an excellent story teller and knew her information very well. We would have liked to hear more about the ghostly activities and what the spirits do to make their presence known. I thought it was a little heavy on the gore, but the kids seemed to like that part. We look forward to taking the other tours offered by Bulldog Tours.

Boring

The tour was boring and uneventful. The tour was advertised at rated R and it was more like G. Even young children would have been bored on the tour. My boyfriend and I started making up our own stories because the ones we were hearing weren't exciting enough.

Not only is this building creepy, but the guide we had was fantastic. She was entertaining, knowledgeable, and full of energy. She knew her stuff. Definitely a fun way to spend an hour or so. Make sure you go after dark!

When we got to the jail, I thought oh my gosh what have I talked myself into doing. But once the tour started, I was disappointed. Down in the basement, you can tell the noise was a set up by other employees because you heard them outside laughing when they made the noises. For me, I was miserable. Didn't know we would walk through some grass (little bit not much) and I got attacked by mosquitoes. The Jail is not A/C which I did not think about so it was extremely hot inside. I advise not to do this tour during the hottest days. And do the tour at night, it is more fun because there is not much lighting in the building. The history of the jail is very fascinating. But as for being scary...I don't see where it is.

My husband and I was somewhat pleased with the tour. I surprised my husband with it so he was a little curious standing on the outside but once he got inside he was fine. Our tour guide (a middle age lady, maybe Suzanne) was good. It is more informational than scary. Maybe if you believe in ghost it would be a little better.

Ask for Lane to be your guide!

If you take this tour you have to have Lane as your guide! He is super informative about the history of Charleston and explains the goings on to you in a very matter a fact manner. It's very laid back every tour. My husband and I loved it!

This was a wonderful tour. Our guide was knowledgable and had wonderful entertaining as well as historical stories to tell us. He was patient and answered questions of anyone who asked. I took photos and actually photographed orbs--which I've never done before. They're really strange. I would and have recommended this tour to anyone. Go and enjoy!

An entertaining evening

Our guide was well informed and quite knowledgeable of the ghost stories of Charleston. Whether or not you believe in spirits, it's an entertaining way of exploring Charleston and discovering some of its history not likely found in a tour book.

Awesome - a MUST if visiting Charleston

We went at night after dark so it added to the scare factor. I think our tour guide, Suzanne, did a great job bleanding historical fact with making the tour just scary enough to keep it interesting. She tells a good tale of the old jailhouse. I would recommend bringing a camera. The only change I would make is to have at least some form of dim lighting in the basement. It was a little hard seeing the rooms as they were only lit by the sporadic flashing of the cameras and camera phones. Great tour and awesome tour guide. Great value for the dollars spent. Thanks for the show.

This was a fabulous tour and I chose it upon the recommendation of a co-worker. I would recommend it to anyone who desires to learn more about history. Our guide gave us some very interesting facts and stories about the area, as well as taking us to places I didn't expect (like a local graveyard). It was a great tour!!

Having been on quite a few walking "ghost tours" up and down the States from NY to Florida the past couple years, if you have been on one before then you've been on this one. You hear about purported ghost sightings/tales and you enjoy a light walk. This is not to say it "isn't worth it" or "isn't any fun". Yes, you will be competing with various tour groups at certain stops, but, our experience was that every group stayed a respectable distance from one another so as not to interfere with each others stories. Afterall, it really is to be expected as this is a popular tourist destination this time of year and where you have those famous words you have the naturally competing "ghost walk" companies. ;-) It's just plain fun......whether you believe or not. You get a little history lesson along the way and you get to end your walk in an actual graveyard. My husband and I went back the next day in daylight to see some of headstones that had been pointed out by our guide, Jim. Our guide was pleasant and you could tell he was a real "people person" who liked to meet people from all over the country. When someone truly likes their jobs, I think it makes the experience that much more pleasant. If you are looking for something other than the typical "ghost walking" tour, I would suggest the "Haunted Jail" also offered by Bulldog. Both this tour and the "Haunted Jail" tour were sold out all the nights we arrived to do our activities at the tour office so since it was the peak season of the tourist, I bought our tickets two weeks before we arrived for our vacation. You just hand them your e-ticket and you are all set. Easy check-in!!!!!
