Good Tour

My son requested the tour of the Old City Jail on our last visit to Charleston, SC. He really enjoyed it. Our tour guide, Susan B., was very personable and friendly. She told some very interesting stories. My only complaint is that she had gum in her mouth the whole time...which combined with the fact she talked very fast, it made it hard to hear everything. The tour is only about 45 minutes long. I would've liked to have seen more rooms in the jail too (we only walked into 3). For an adult, the creepy factor was low. For my 14 year old, he found it spooky.

My husband and I had a wonderful time on this tour. Lane was our tour guide...he is one of Charleston's hidden treasures!! I learned so much more than I had expected and it was very interesting. Lane made sure that everyone got all their questions answered and addressed all of our interests. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who is looking to really learn about the darker side of the Holy City.

Not too scary

The tour was well-organized and a small enough group that you could see and hear the guide. Our guide, Tad, was excellent. We weren't scared at all, but he told some "true" stories of Charleston's past that were pretty intriguing. We also learned some interesting history, but not enough to get boring. We would highly recommend this tour.

We had a group of 9 people to do the haunted jail tour. The ages ranged from 50 down to 9. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The history was very interesting and the guide we had was great she really added alot by the way she presented herself and explained everything. We visit Charleston every fall also and plan to do another one of the tours then. Keep up the great work.

Not Worth It

We all thought this tour was terrible. Many of us have been on ghost tours before that were quite entertaining. This one was neither scary nor entertaining. The stories were laughable at best.

The tour guide knew alot about the area and we enjoyed her talks. We were limited on the tour because of the time of day and certain areas were off limits. We did however get to go into the graveyard.

We thoroughly our evening strolling through Charleston. Our guide, Dave, was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. His vast knowledge of the area was evident in his recounting of ghostly encounters. This tour is tame enough for the 10 and over set, but still gave the adults a few goosebumps. Be sure and take a camera on the walk. We didn't notice anything odd during the tour, but orbs and a misty shadow showed up in several pictures. We had a fun time and a great evening walk through Charleston.

Fun thing to do in Charleston! Our tour guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable! We loved hearing all the different stories and history of Charleston. The dungeon was neat to see, but not necessarily scary. It's a long hot walk so dress accordingly!

Great Historical Tour

We had Lane for this tour and I would love to do another tour with him to "pick his brain" on all of the incredible and accurate knowledge he has of his hometown. His southern style just added to the enjoyment. Unfortunately, there were several college-ish age people on our tour who were not as into the history (not enough edge and smut I guess) and would have done better with a ghost tour. This is definately for history buffs who want a little more of the guts of the story. I know I would have enjoyed it more with a more mature group that respected the knowledge that was being imparted to them, so any negetivity I felt about the tour had nothing to do with Lane or Bulldog Tours. This is our forth tour with Bulldog and they have always been fantastic. Many different styles and Lane is one of the best. A bit tricky to understand with my "yankee ear" but as I said, that just added so much to the ambienc of the storytelling. Excellent and we will be back!

I recommend taking this tour during the dark. It will add to the feel and atmosphere. Our guide was good, but talked to long at each location. We could have had more time seeing other places if each stop was to the point and told the corresponding story without fluff. Guide had a hard time talking over traffic noise at some of the locations. Being able to get into local graveyard a plus. Did not finish tour at starting location. Left to find our own way back to the start. Not a bad tour but not great either.

not very interesting

We all had a problem hearing the guide even after telling him to talk louder. He also tended to ramble on about some things which made it boring. We left the tour early because the guide did not make it interesting ( when we could hear what he was saying) I would not recommend this tour at this time .

This tour was very interesting. My family did not know much about Charleston or it's history but we certainly learned a lot. The architecture is phenomenal. We learned so much about the history of the single and double houses, the reasons for the "piazza" and the importance of preserving the original buildings. Just viewing the beauty of the wrought iron gates and ornate columns was worth the price of the tour. I believe you learn more and observe more on a walking tour because you actually take the time to stop and view the details. Our tour was in June and it was not too hot outside, but we had an excellent tour guide that made sure that all of our stops were in the shaded areas anyway. This made the tour all the more enjoyable. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes, bring a bottle of water and, depending on the time of year, bring a jacket and/or an umbrella. Don't forget your camera because the houses are beautiful and the scenery is gorgeous. If I had to pick one negative thing about the tour, it would be waiting for the tour ahead of you to move on. However, it was never a long wait and it only happened at a couple of stops. All in all, it was one of the better tours we have taken.
