A Bit Rushed-But Otherwise Enjoyable!

| We have taken a couple of other tours with Bulldog and enjoyed them thoroughly. This time, the "host" had us almost run to the first spot. I know that the sites are used by multiple groups BUT it was a little disconcerting! Once we got through the first building, everything was very enjoyable! The guide was very entertaining and very knowledgeable about the history of Charleston. The use of the photos was great! On our next trip, we're looking forward to the haunted Jail tour! | ||||||

Hot inside city jail and stories were not scary

| It ended up being too hot in the city jail. Perhaps, they could place fans in the areas of the tour. Ghost stories seemed to be not scary at all. | ||||||

| Although I am not much of an American history fan, I was in awe of the facts and tales that our tour guide provided us along our walk. Purchasing the tickets was pain free, and the meeting place was very easy to locate. We did two different guided tours, as well as a few self-guided tours of places such as the USS Yorktown, and this was by far our favorite part of the trip. | ||||||

Nice night walk...less than exciting tour.

| I was expecting to hear some real history of Charleston...at least to set the stage given pirates and wars. The stories were kind of lame and did not reflect the true wealth of fun stuff out of Charleston's history. The 'best' story that was told was that of someone who died and was buried an hour away from town which didn't seem that relevant. A very nice night time walk though through Charleston with great potential but I think that the tour contents itself need to be improved. This could be a great tour with the right tour guide. Ours was less than exciting. | ||||||

| Tour was good -- excellent historical detail. However, when tour was over, we were left to find our way back to our hotel, having been in town for 4 hours prior to this tour. | ||||||

| The building is a picture perfect place for ghost stories etc. The tour is a joke, you are outside on the grounds for half of it and the time you spend inside is only to listen to the tour guide lecture you like you are a student. The inside is being converted to a school and these people have the right to tour you at night but it is into 2 rooms. Save your money | ||||||

Haunted Jail Tour - Just OK

| With all the construction going on in the jail and all the "modern" items lying around, it really took away from the experience of the old county jail. Much of the tour was spent outside in two places talking about the history. Not many "haunting" stories were told and there was nothing scary about the tour. We only toured 3 areas of the jail. There was no lighting in the jail other than a small light our tour guide had. And beware if you go in the summer, it is HOTTER than HOT in there! Take water! I will give props to our guide Susan - she was very knowledgeable on the history of the jail and very personable. If you are expecting a scary experience, I wouldn't recommend spending the money. | ||||||

Among the worst story tellers I have ever met

| We booked the Dungeon Tour hoping for a glimpse at the more mysical lure of Charleston. Ghost stories are an awesome genre. But, telling a ghost story effectively can be a challenge. Regretfully, I spent 90 minutes with a very poor storyteller. 2/3 of my group left. I tried to loosen the teller up with banter and encouragement--no success. She lost some stories half way through, generalized when she should have been specific, used the phrase "go ahead and..." repeatedly. For example, "The ghost came into the room and he decided to go ahead and leave." This verbal crutch showed up at least every fifth sentence. When one of my group members decided to leave I said to him, "You paid $18 to hear ghost stories...it's almost over." He replied, "I would pay twice as much to not have to suffer through this." Did we complain to Bulldog Tours? No. I tend to feel bad for people in her situation and simply went on my way. I suspect some storytellers with the company are quite good. My advice--call in advance and ask for a REALLY GOOD storyteller. They know the bad ones. You will too. They are detectable almost before they utter a word. Also, the dungeoun is more like someone's basement. Not awesome at all. | ||||||

| I absolutely loved this tour. Our guide was very enthusiastic and informative and the jail itself was unbelievably creepy. My only complaint is that a lot of the areas were under construction and filled with modern-day items (poland springs water cooler, ladders, paint cans, etc), which took away from the historic feel of the jail. I would also suggest some additional lighting -- my tour was at 9pm so it was dark. The first room that we entered had a dim red light which made it easier to see. The rest of the rooms were completely dark which was scary, but it would have been scarier with some additional light that allowed us to see more what was around. | ||||||

| We enjoyed our tour guide and our tour of the old Charleston jail. Not only did we learn alot of history, but we walked among the energy of the spirits of the past residents of the jail and their keepers. The guide (AJ) did a great job as he moved us through the rooms and levels of the jail, plying us with stories and tidbits of experiences he has had in the building as well as the history of the inmates and their stories. | ||||||

| This tour was very interesting. Great stories about the history of the jail and the people associated with it. The tour guide did a great job of answering questions and framing the each part of the jail with a story. Would highly recommend this tour. | ||||||
