The tour guide was more interested in telling us which paranormal group had been there than telling the history of the jail |

This was a fun, informative tour. We deliberately took it later at night in hopes of seeing a shadow, etc. but no such luck.
The tour guide was very educated in Chareleston & SC history and a great story-teller.
All the photo flashes of our group probably took away some of the eerie potential, and we were limited to visiting the basement when we would have liked to have visited the upper floors, but overall this was a great tour. |

it was a little lengthy but interesting. The guide was animated and excited about the tour. Some of her information contradicted other information we learned about some history events, etc. |

This is the third tour that I've taken with Bulldog Tours. I had taken the Ghosts and Gravestones tour a few years ago when I first visited Charleston. I loved it so when I found myself in town again for a short period of time I make sure to come back to take the other tours. I was short on time so I took the Ghosts and Dungeon tour at 7 PM and the Jail tour at 9 PM. It was a fast walk between where the Dungeon tour ended and the Jail but Bulldog gave me a good map. I arrived only about 5 minutes early for the tour.
The jail is located in an area of town that is not as privileged as other areas as Charleston. The building is forboding. Suzann was our tour guide. She runs a very strict tour. We had some pre-teens on the tour who were apt to ask questions in rapid fire succession and talk on their cell phones. She delt with the situation quickly but a bit abruptly. I was happy that she did it but it was also a bit offputting. Her delivery of the stories and information was a bit sensational which for me distracts from the tour. If you like a tour where the guide trys to scare you then you'll love it. I prefer to hear the story, the supernatural activity and the research that has been done in a less theatrical manner but I suspect that I'm probably in the minority.
The building itself is rather imposing. It is in the middle of a renovation right now but it was possible to imagine how difficult it must have been to spend time there (a drastic understatement). Nothing paranormal happened on the tour but I actually wasn't expecting anything to happen so I wasn't disapointed.
All in all this was an interesting tour and I'd recommend it although I don't think it is the best of the tours offered by Bulldog. |

Several years ago I visited Charleston for the first time. One of the main things that I like to do in every city that I visit is to take walking tours. I love history and ghost tours. I've taken them all over the world and can say that the tours offered by Bulldog Tours are among the best I've been on. The last time I was in Charleston I took the Ghosts and Gravestones tour and absolutely loved it. I was fortunate enough to have Tad Legare as my guide on that tour. I was pleasently surprised that when I returned to Charleston this time and had Tad as my guide for the Ghost and Dungeon tour. He is great. He is an interesting speaker and doesn't sensationalize the stories too much.
This tour covers a few sites along the Cooper River waterfront before actually getting to the Dungeon. These sites were interesting but of course the focus of the tour is the Dungeon. That was very interesting. I don't want to give it away but the dungeon is reported to have some ghost activity actually happen during the tours. I was on an early tour so I wasn't really expecting anything to happen while we were down there. I was surprised when things did happen. One of the things that happend is that objects began to move. We spent some time actually talking about logical explinations for what was happening. I walked up and was standing next to a chain that was intended to keep people from heading into an area. I was the only one standing by the chain and it was about 3 feet away. I was looking into the corner and when I looked back the chain was moving.
This chain is secured to the wall and I felt the wall to see if there were any vibrations - possibly from a vehicle or something on the street next to the dungeon. I felt no vibrations. As I was looking at the chain I noticed that it's movement was not a simple back and forth but it appeared to move as if someone was picking up a link about a third of the way along then letting go of it again. I actually reached out and felt around the chain. Perhaps it was rigged in some way with a fishing line but I couldn't find anything except a cold spot directly above the point where the chain was being lifted up. I stopped the chain's movement and then watched as it began again a minute later - this time a bit more forcefully.
I don't know what it was. Was it a ghost - perhaps. I couldn't find a rational explination for it myself but it was facinating.
I'll take more tours with Bulldog the next time I'm in town. Luckily I have a relative that just moved there so I'll be back much more often now. |

Loved the stories about the history and tragic deaths. Brooke our guide was very informative and knew her history. The length of the walk was just right. I personally have leg problems- I didn't have any problems. A wheel chair won't work though. Too many cobble stones. We ate at a near by restaurant around 5:00 and the tour was at 7:00. The timing was just right for a relaxing evening! |

The Darkside of Charleston Tour was a wonderful experience. Susan was a great tourguide and she had the best stories to tell. A great way to get know the less popular history of Charleston! |

Greatly enjoyed this tour and our guide. He had an extensive knowledge of the history of Charleston and conveyed it with passion. It was obvious that he did not have a script and was open to any specific interest of anyone in the group. It's not for children. My 16 year old daughter accompanied me and she loved it! I wouldn't ,however ,recommend it for anyone any younger. Excellent! |

The tour guide was fabulous! He knew a ridiculous amount of information about the seedy history of Charleston and really wanted input from the group on what our specific interests were so he could focus on those topics. He also had a great laid-back approach which made the tour more enjoyable bc you weren't being pushed along! |

Tyler was our tour guide and he provided very interesting ghost stories in a very believable manner. He seemed genuinely interested in providing us with as much detail to make the stories more interesting, and had even gone to one of the story sites personally to obtain more insight. |

My boyfriend has been there many times, but this was my first trip to Charleston, and this tour provided me with a unique way to see things I otherwise wouldn't have seen. Our guide, Jim T., was very informative, and a great story teller. The dungeon was great if for no other reason than the architecture, but it also had a rather scary and eerie quality to it. It was a good time. |
