The Haunted Jail Tour was interesting. I wish that we could have seen more of the jail. I think it would have been scarier if we had been allowed to go into the basement - but understandable because of the school there. I thought the tour guide was excellent. All in all, I would recommend it to friends.
Rating: 5 Very educational regarding Charleston history
The Charleston Ghost and Graveyard Tour

I loved this tour. Our tour guide, John, had been doing these tours for 15 years and was very friendly and informative. Since he is from the area it made it extremely educational since he had personal knowledge of all of the buildings, neighborhoods and graveyards covered by the tour. He stopped often enough for someone like me (with back problems) to be able to keep up. He did so without making an issue about the fact that I was starting to lag behind. He was most considerate! I have no complaints about the tour, but it would be nice if the company would disclose that it is not just a graveyard tour. That way people will know what a treat they have in store for them as far as information regarding the areas of Charleston that the tour covers. I cannot wait to return to Charleston to do the other tours!

My husband and I enjoyed the ghost and dungeon tour. Rebel Sinclair, our tour guide, was very personable and entertaining. The ghostly stories were equally gruesome and eerie. Thanks! The Billiots from Louisiana

Expected a little history and at least one good ghost story but we didn't get either. We were brought to a parking lot and then prompted to look at the grave sight of a dead dog! The stroll through the cemetary was not long enough.
Rating: 3 Very informative ... but not very scary

For starters, I'd like to give some credit to the city of Charleston for doing its best to ensure that its tourist industry is legitimate and well regulated. In a city that has so many things to see and do, it is essential to protect tourists from predatory schemes. The Old City Jail tour is legitimate, and it was a worthwhile tour. However, it isn't quite as scary as touted on web sites. Some feedback: * Instructions required us to check in at Bulldog tours (off Market Street). We arrived 45 minutes early, as instructed. Upon checking in, we were given a small street map and told to make our own way to the city jail. It was about 1/2 mile walk, and we arrived at 7:30 p.m., a half hour prior to the tour. (This was a mistake. My party and about 15 others were forced to wait outside the jail in a pretty rough section of town until the tour guide arrived. Yes, a police car visibly present, but being stuck OUTSIDE the city jail at the beginning was probably the scariest part of the tour.) * Our tour guide arrived about 10 minutes late, but she was very informative and helpful. And one of the first things she did was to temper expectations about being scared or seeing legions of ghosts. She explained paranormal activity as behavior that is subtle (changes in temperature, smells, occurences in the peripheral vision). This was helpful, because we did arrive with slightly higher expectations. * The tour lasted about 45 minutes, and it was very educational from a historical standpoint. We saw no ghosts but came away generally pleased that we had gone on the tour. * On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd rate the tour a 6. There are plenty of things to see in Charleston, and this should be one of MANY things to see -- but not the sole reason for going there. P.J. Mitchell

the building was old and scary looking - the tour guide was a bit corny but she knew what she was talking about - fun activity to do with out of town guests

We took 3 of Bulldogs tours and this one was by far the absolute best. Our tour guide Rebel Sinclair was fantastic. She really new her stuff. I loved all the stories she told us, being a writer she knows how to tell stories. The one about the man who hung himself in the 3rd floor office was great, but the dungeon itself was fasinating. She really got into the history and background of the people who were imprisoned there. We enjoyed her tour the best.

We lucked out...The only ones on our tour was me and my son(15)...Very interesting tour, with a very knowledgeable tour guide...Definately spooky...My son thinks that he saw a spirit while we were there! Honestly, it would have been a little spookier if the college students had not been there on the other floors doing construction...It kind of took away from the haunted atmosphere...

I loved the Haunted jail tour and all the history told to us by our tour guide David. The inside of the jail was just fantastic as you can see where the cells originally were and just how small they were. I would have liked to know more about any ghosts that were haunting it as we were only told on one lady, but I loved it just as well. We got some really nice, spooky looking pictures that I will treasure for a long time.

The tour was very interesting in the facts and stories that our tour guide Stephen told us. He was very personable and kept your interest. I would highly recommend this tour. The ghosts of Poogans porch was probably my favorite, but the lady in the grave yard was eye opening as well.

Although I did enjoy this tour, it wasn't quite as enjoyable as the Graveyard tour. Provost Dungeon (as seen in a special about haunted places in Charleston on a popular cable channel) was a definite highlight and it added to the overall experience. There certainly was an eerie feeling walking through it! I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting.

We had a wonderful tour guide who provided much information about Charleston and its lengthy history and secrets. We enjoyed this tour because it provided more information than a typical tour of the city. We had never visited Charleston, and we came away learning more about the city and its history than we anticipated. Our group (which ranged from age 23 to 70) would recommend this for anyone desiring to learn more about Charleston's evolvement from a seedy port town to a city oozing with Southern charm.

This tour was an absolute blast! Our tour guide, Stephen, had our sides splitting. His amicable personality really added to the tour. He told the scary stories with enthusiasm and his passion for his work really showed. He was great with the children in our group as well. I have already recommended this tour to my friends who are visiting there next month~

We had fun, but it seemed a little silly to me. I still don't believe in ghosts!
