After reading a few of the other reviews on here we kind of knew what to expect and it was just that - not scary, but informational and fun. Our tour guide told us a lot about the history of the jail, a little about the history of the city of Charleston, and about some of the inmates - which all of us found interesting. The only letdown was that a) It was not scary at all b) There is an art college doing a reconstruction project on the jail during the day (which our tour guide explained "If they weren't around, this jail would not be standing" - makes sense, it's old) It won't affect your tour - but it did take a little away when you see construction equipment in the basement of the jail. Overall though, it was a fun experience and we're all glad we did it. |

The tour was interesting, as was the jail itself. The tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. The tour could have used more atmosphere (this may be due in part to going early when it was still light out). Maybe include some pictures of people in the jail or the wardens or something? |

I have been on a few GREAT food city tours. ( Chicago and New York ) We were really looking forward to this one. We LOVE low country food and really were looking forward to hearing about the history of some of the local favorites. Needless to say we were very disappointed on this tour. The guide was well meaning, but VERY slow and boring. The stops were very uninspired and touristy. We actually stopped at a bakery downtown that was next to a 7-11 type party store. There was nothing "local" or "historic" about it...the other stops like the candy store by the market you can do yourself, again, VERY touristy. There was literally NOTHING historic about the stops, buildings or anything this tour. The only interesting shop was the spice and tea store and that was because of the great owner who was so thoughtful and really made our stop fun. EVERYTHING else was very boring and SLOW. Most places the guide allowed people to mill around and shop after she explained the food or area, but it went on WAY too long. In one store, Charleston Cooks we spent 40 minutes walking around while people shopped. Not a great way to spend my day. 2 and a half hours with half of it spent shopping is not a good way to help people understand the culture of Charleston. Avoid. |

My friend and I went to Charleston for a girls weekend, and participated in the tour with Fran as a tour guide. Even thought it was hot as the dickens, we had an absolutely lovely time! Fran knew food history and local color, making all the stops on the tour relevant and interesting, as well as delicious! I highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Charleston. |

My wife and I absolutely loved the culinary tour. Our guide was outgoing, warm, and very knowledgeable about southern cuisine and history. The chefs were eager to share their kitchen, their history, and their philosophies as well as their food. We're planning to take this tour again with our kids. |

I really enjoyed the graveyard tour. I would have liked to been able to look around in the graveyard, but we were kept together as a group. At times it seems the guides were " lost " at one particular time there were 4 tour groups in the same graveyard. The guide I had was good, he told alot of stories but I feel he could have done a better job, we could have seen more if not for other groups always beating us to the scene, then instead of waiting for previous tour to clear out ( as I saw other guides doing ) we would just turn around and walk away. Over all it was fun and I did enjoy myself. I would sign up for one fo the other tours next time I'm in Charleston |

I always go into these ghost tours not expecting to see ghosts and I did not see ghosts on this tour. I still had a blast! Hoon was a great guide! He's dramatic and knows his stuff. Charleston has lots of tragic history and Hoon knows how to tell it. It was really cool that we actually got to go into a cemetery; that's pretty unusual for a ghost tour. If you go to these things expecting the crap to be scared out of you, you'll be disappointed. Just know what they are--they're history walks, with ghost stories told. The tour guide makes all the difference in what kind of experience you'll have. Hoon gave us a fun time. I don't care if I see a ghost or not; I want some good stories and I got them! |

You don't see all of Charleston but what you do see is introduced in a lively and interesting way. Braxton (the guide) was great and obviously enjoys his job. |

What a great adventure for learning about the Charleston area. A little history, a bite to eat, a little history, a bite to eat, time to check out neat kitchen gadgets, a little history, a few spices and teas to sample then a stop at some of the finest candy samples ever, then a bit more history and ending with another snack of Carolina bar-b-que!
Truly enjoyed eating and learning and also finding some great places to go back for a full meal. A must tour and will come back again!!! |

The group was quite eclectic, we had some very young kids join us, that detracted from the tour guides ability to give a thorough tour. |

The tour was a disappointment. There were two children in our group approx. ages 5 and 7 that I feel caused our guide a lot of distraction. The kids were constantly talking to her, were loud etc. I feel like they bothered her and I know they bothered everyone on the tour. I am a nurse and love kids, however I didn't feel their presence was appropriate and it sure did keep myself and my friend from having any excitement on a "ghost tour". I feel the tour company should exclude small children, but they apparently do not. It was basically a walk in the night with annoying kids and a guide that didn't know how to deal with them, which I wouldn't either. I think the simple solution would have been, NO SMALL CHILDREN. Honestly, it was a waste of money. It was terrible. The small children were being children, their parents stupid for taking them and the tour company responsible for allowing them there. Again, a waste of money. Really not good, I guess might be better if your tour doesnt have small children. Maybe you'll get lucky and you will be on a ghost tour with adults. |
