Not only did we go with our friends, but our 15 year old daughter and her friend went in a separate group from ours. We ALL enjoyed the tour very much. We really learned alot more of the Charleston history! I would highly recommend anyone (which we have) to give this tour a try! We are looking forward to the Cemetary tour next.

Very interesting tour

Our guide was knowledgeable and displayed a thorough presentation of the history of the jail, questions were answered to my satisfaction. This is the best way, and probably the only way to see this building. Recommended.

Guide...Good, Tour...So-So

I was so excited that for our first trip to Charleston, it was going to be a Halloween weekend with a Ghost Tour planned! The tour was not that scary, the guide was very knowledgable but the majority of the time was spent walking around and listening to a few ok stories. I was not very scared and it was more history than anything else, but in that case, I could have done it during the day. I wouldn't pay to go on another tour with this company again...I'm weary to even try any other tour companies. Seems like a money trap.

Alright but not worth the money

The tour was quite short and for such a large building we didn't get to see that many rooms. Of course we were given a good story about a room that was locked. One of the rooms was a workroom. I will say I was initially put off because our tour guide basically made fun of where I live. He asked me where I was from and when I told him Myrtle Beach, his response was "i'm sorry". I thought that was very rude, unprofessional and I didn't find the joke in it. He also asked me if I was good at "putt putt" because apparently everyone who lives in Myrtle Beach "all they do is play putt putt".

It was a History Tour not a Ghost Tour

This was really a "history tour", our guide was very knowledgeable but she focused on past events and telling what activities took place in each room rather than "ghost stories", and she was turning the lights on everywhere, so there was really nothing scary about the tour, most people in the tour seemed pretty disappointed.

Great tour

Tour guide was excellent. The only thing to change is for an old jail, need to put things like 5 gallon water bottles, large cans of Planter's peanuts and renovation details out of sight. It would make it more period oriented and less of things that were not available at that time.

spooky but not horrifying

The tour was interesting. We saw the dungeon which is dark and dank and heard some good stories. We saw chains move by themselves, but did not see any of the ghosts that were discussed. We also saw a very weird phenomena on some rocks by the waterfront. By standing on the rock your voice was amplified. It was very spooky!

Good but expected more
Tue, Oct 26, 10   9:00 PM lwishart Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
Our guide took us straight to the Dungeon first and it was not what I expected- it was full of dressed dummies, depicting the historical figures who were imprisoned there so that part was kind of cheesy-if you can overlook the dummies the guide did a good job of giving the history of the place and the characters though. We liked the Graveyard portion of the Dungeon tour much better. HINT- you walk across alot of original cobblestone AND river rock streets fairly fast and IN THE DARK to get to the various destinations, so wear comfortable shoes with NO heels, unless you want to break your ankle(which I did a year ago.) Even though I am healed now and was wearing my most comfortable gym shoes this time, I still found the walkways uneven and challenging to the ankles.Bring your camera, as you are encouraged to take as many photos as you want-in an effort to capture images of orbs and figures who may appear on them! Happened to me!! Tie a sweatshirt around your waist, as it can get cold at night in the graveyard and dungeon, especially from mid October til May. Good tour but expected a couple more stops than what we did. Go during the week, as Friday& Saturday you will end up in larger groups and will have a hard time crowding in close enough to hear the tour guide.

Not bad

The information was good, but pretty much what you'd find in any book covering the ghosts of Charleston. We still enjoyed this tour, as something to do the week before Halloween!

Simply a waste of time and money.

Although the lady giving the tour was a very sweet woman, the tour was not at all what we expected. All three of us agreed it was definately a waste of time and money, a big disappointment.

Fun way to learn some history

My husband and I enjoyed the graveyard ghost tour. it wasn't scary at all--not that I truly expected it to be, but thought it might be eerie. It really wasn't. It was really neat to see the centuries old tombstones, and hear about local history. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to others!
