Great history & Fun Ghost Tales

| I went by myself while my wife did the Ghost & Dungeon Tour. (She was too scared of the Jail even when we saw it in the daytime). The Jail itself is beautiful in a foreboding and architectural way. The tour itself was very informative and a little spooky. No theatrics or spooky effects but our tour guide, AJ (?), did a great job. I applaud Charleston for keeping such a building alive the last 200 years. Would definitely recommend the tour. | ||||||

| This was a great historical tour. I was a bit apprehensive about attending, cause ghost stories really creep me out, but my husband and I had a great time. It was just the right amound of history and haunting! | ||||||

OK, not what we expected

| We thought we would be going into buildings and/or locations not just standing outside and hearing stories. While she did a good job telling the stories it just didn't have the wow factor that actually seeing the places inside would have. It would probably have been better if we'd gone at 9 so it would have been dark! | ||||||

I'd go just to get into the graveyard.

| As they advertise, Bulldog is the only tour company that gives you access to a local graveyard, which is great. Other than getting into the graveyard, the tour just wasn't as good as I expected. There are about 5 other groups from misc tour companys at the same place at any given time and they are all giving various versions of the same story or different stories. I think the majority of the problem was our tour guide, who was a little pixieish girl. Her stories were not historically accurate and her delivery wasn't really good enough for a ghost and graveyards guide. It was a neat walking tour of the city, pointing out a few churches and seeing the graves at night, but don't expect scary stories. | ||||||

Other tours are probably better than Bulldog

| This tour is interesting however we had a 20-something tour guide who studdered and botched stories the whole time. Only went to 3 locations and actually was quite bored. It's more historical than intriguing but the lack of facts kind of made it seem cheesy. I think the Ghost Hunt tour by candle light would have been better-this was too main stream...my group was bored. | ||||||

| This was the best part of our visit to Charleston. We (my husband and teenage boys) enjoyed the tour and learned a lot about life in the early jails. | ||||||

| Franny, our guide, made the tour interesting, informative, and entertaining. My 12 year old son enjoyed the tour so much after complaining that I walked him to death on the beach at the Isle of Palms earlier in the day he never once complained during our 90 minute walk through downtown Charleston. He wants to come back, and do the Jail & Graveyard tour next time we go to Charleston. | ||||||

American College of the Building Arts.

| I went into this tour expecting to see a lot more of the jail, but in reality you only see 3 different rooms. What they don't tell you is that the jail is now actually the "American College of the Building Arts" (google it). It is actually a functioning college and many of the rooms in the jail are now workshops and classrooms. In addition to being a functional college, they are working on preserving and stabilizing the building itself. As a result, you don't get to see much of the building and it is definitely a construction zone inside, but it is still pretty spooky. Our tour guide was a dramatic woman with blue / black hair, I'm thinking her name was Rebel. She did a great job of incorporating the actual history of the building into her tour and stories, and she actually cited research that had been done to debunk old myths and gave the new accurate versions. Overall it was a fun tour, not scary, but interesting for history buffs and ghost story seekers. As a side note, we did take a few pictures that had orbs in them. They are probably just dust, but I'm still anxious to have them developed to know for sure. | ||||||

| We have participated in many ghost tours throughout the country, and this ranks as one of the best ones we've done. The jail was impressive in itself, and our guide was wondeful! We learned a lot about the history of the area and the jail, and actually had a personal experience in one of the cel rooms. This was truly an unforgetable experience. | ||||||

| It would be better to do this tour in the daytime. Our guide was great, and very knowledgable, but sometimes his accent was difficult to understand. | ||||||

| I think the tour could have been good, but our tour guide wasn't. Very unenthusiastic, very few stories, lots of downtime and quiet time walking from one site to the next. We had been looking forward to this tour for a long time and were not happy with any part of it. | ||||||

Fun with a large group

| This tour was fun to do with our family and friends of about 15 people. The anticipation of the tour the whole week was just as fun as the tour itself. It was raining on the day of the tour, but it turned out to be ok. I thought we would see a lot more of the jail...they only showed us 3 rooms. And when it ended it was very anti-climatic. We had fun scaring each other within the group. I wouldn't do this with just your spouse or girlfriend or boyfriend...waste of time. Having a large group def. helped. Being in the jail is interesting and learning the history was cool, but it really wasn't very scary. Our tour guide was good...very dramatic and knowledgable. I would recommend to do one time, but if your looking for something very scary and haunted....this tour is probably not what you are looking for. I did have some weird "orbs" on pictures I took outside the jail in the dark. | ||||||

Not spooky

| This was definintely not spooky. The jail isn't abandoned. It's been turned into a college campus. There are classrooms in most of the rooms and lots of debris from building projects. It would have been much more believable in an empty (abandoned) building. The surrounding neighborhood isn't safe or somewhere I would normally venture. Drive your car to the jail - don't walk! | ||||||
