I loved walking around the town and visiting the sights. The ghost stories were interesting, but our tour guide was not able to be spontaneous, and any question or interuption from my children resulted in a long pause in the narration, and then the story was just picked up where it was left off, many times without answering the question asked. Also, when walking from one location to the next, there was no narration at all, just silence for minutes on end. It was just myself and my children on the tour, so I thought we'd get some individually tailored information, but that was not the case. |

Kathy, our tour guide was engaging and provided much history of Charleston food in this stroll around the market square area. Worth the $, though I wish the spice store had been open after the tour, and the last stop was disappointing. The tour began with a bang and ended with a fizzle, but again, wonderful tastes and history of the region. |

The food was a smaller portion of the tour than I thought, which was actually better. I got to not just mindlessly eat random food, but Mary provided the history to each area and each type of food we ate. It was like getting two tours for the price of one. Charleston had a lot of food start from that region and spread to the U.S., which is something I found fascinating. I also learned what Southern food, as opposed to Low Country food means. Lots of fun! |

We booked based on the recommendation of a friend who is a Charleston native. Once we got there to check in for our tour, we learned that as it was a weekday during their slow time, we were actually getting TWO (2) tours for the price of ONE (1) !!!! Our tour guide (Tad) was not only knowledgeable, but personable as well. We hope to go back soon for another Bulldog tour :) |

The tour is conducted in the PITCH BLACK DARK and the guide has an ineffective LED flashlight. She talked so fast that it was difficult to understand her, and it seemed that we rushed through the jail. We weren't the last tour of the night, either. Every now and then, a cool draft would roll through, and she would say "What is that? Where is that coming from? There are no open doors or windows." Well, it's a hundred + year old building, and there are numerous broken windows.....not exactly draft proof. Maybe I just didn't buy into it, but I felt that $10 was a more than ample cost and $18 was too high. It's also wickedly inconvenient to have to go to the office on North Market Street and then have to walk or drive the 7 blocks to the jail. You should be able (especially when purchasing online) to check in at the jail without having to go into Market Street Tourist crowds to just check in. In short, I would not do this again. |

Since much of the jail was inaccessible due to restoration in progress by a local craftman's tech school, I feel that we did not see many parts of the jail. There appeared to be so much more of the building that what we actually got to see. Calling it a tour is somewhat of a misnomer.
I also feel that the moderator's presentation was uninteresting, his voice being mono-toned and without emotion, though the story-line was intriguing. It felt like he was going through the motions, which took away from the premise of being a "haunted tour".
I Would not recommend on hot nights for anyone with health issues since the jail gets extremely hot inside by night's end. I would also recommend that "Bull Dog" tours include a carriage ride to the jail from their check in site...this would make the tour worth it even with a boring moderator. |

I have been on the Darkside of Charleston tour with Bull Dog & greatly enjoyed it. This tour was OK, but not as good as the Darkside tour. This isn't Bull Dog's fault as I'm not totally convinced of the supernatural & that affected my opinion of this tour. The next time I'm in town, I plan to try the Jail House Tour with Bull Dog. |

we thought we were going on a ghost tour ... but it turned out to be a history tour of the old jail
the site was pretty cool & the history of the site was interesting BUT we just walked outside and then from room to room and just listened to the guide tell us the history - it wasn't scary, wasn't creepy and def wasn't a GHOST tour
here's what could have made it better
- have the guide tell her PERSONAL experiences of the building or giving tours etc - I'm sure each tour guide would of had MANY experiences to draw from
- let us explore a given floor by ourselves - keep everyone quiet,
- remind the other groups and people in a given tour to be QUIET during the tours
- group size was too big (17 in ours)
we found the guide talked more about watching this step or that step or go here or there then doing any actual ghost hunting ... the site had sooooo much potential but again was just a history lesson .... this was for beginners and had nothign to do with ghosts or ghost hunting - I was VERY disappointed |

It was a decent tour. Some history mixed with some ghost stories. Certainly better than the jail tour. |

We had a terrific tour guide. I believe her name was Mary. I think she knew everything about Charleston. It lasted about 2 hours so I really feel we got our money's worth out of the tour. Be prepared to walk. I would recommend bringing water with you, especially if it is hot. |

The tour was pretty boring and not scary. With the exception of visiting the dungeon which was interesting everything else was very mundane. Would not recommend. Take a carriage tour instead |

We were really disappointed in the stories. An old jail opened for several years I'm sure has better stories than what we heard. And nothing about the whole tour inside the jail gave any 'Ghost' type feeling. |

After starting to walk to the jail with instructions, surroundings were dark and cold so we decided to go back and drive. Was NOT told we needed different driving directions.(so we were lost driving around for at least 50 min.'s) Called office and was disconnected twice. Did NOT know this was a school, so we weren't allowed much access (not even a jail cell!) , just open door rooms. Definatley not impressed. |
