Much more than just a food tour!
Fri, Aug 3, 12   1:30 PM bszweda Male 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
My guide for this experience was Richard. I give the experience 5 starts. Our tour last just over 2 hours. During this time we did sample 6 different foods, but this was much more than just a food tour. Richard provided the small group with church history, architectural history, historical info on the settling and development of Pittsburgh's Strip District and much more. He was a wealth of information and you could tell he was personally invested in Pitt's history. The shops we stopped at for samples were great as well. Their owners of most of the stores were present to explain to us the background of the food we were sampling including but not limited to how it was made and a bit of history on their shop. I definitely recommend this experience to locals and tourists. It will not only be very informative for you but it will give you great ideas of places to shop at / eat at in the future.

Enjoyed the tour; guide was very informative. Would like to hear a little more about the history of the area, population size; distance from downtown; ethnic make-up, etc.

This tour was amazing. I never expected the amount of food we tasted. It was delicious at every venue. In particular, I enjoyed talking to the shop owners and hearing their stories of how they started their business. Corinne, our tour guide, was outstanding. Very friendly and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this tour.

I live and work in the Strip, but I learned a lot about neighborhood on the tour and had a lot of fun! I highly recommended the tour, especially for people who think they have seen everything there is to see in the Strip.

Great way to learn about a neighborhood

This was a great way for a tourist or a resident to learn about the Strip District. It was great tasting different foods and learning random historical tidbits - like the green banana incident. I would recommend it to anyone visiting or living in Pittsburgh and would love to do another tour when I get to Pittsburgh again. Our tour guide was very informative and paced the tour very well!

Knowledgeable, professional, and gracious tour guide took ten of us on a delicious sampling of six stores in the district. Owners/managers at each provided behind-the-scenes views and tastings. Learned a lot about the history of the area. I would like to return and take more of the tours offered by Burgh Bits and Bites, especially Lower Lawrenceville and Bloomfield.

This was a nice tour of Bloomfield PA, Little Italy for Pittsburgh. Not only were there great stops at Italian grocerias, pizza shop and gelato store, but the tour guide gave information on the ethnicity of neighborhood and how the people in that neighborhood live and interact with their neighbors and retailers. It was very interesting and tasty for a transplant to Pittsburgh like me.

Wonderful day at the Strip District

I enjoyed this tour a LOT. We did a long and tasty walk through one of Pittsburgh's oldest and most unique neighborhoods. Our brilliant tour guide and founder of Burgh Bits and Bites, Sylvia, shared with us lot of interesting facts about the Strip and Pittsburgh in general. She also introduced us to a lot of the food vendors on Penn Avenue, who all with a lot of charm, knowledge and passion talked about their products and the history of their businesses, which are often already for several generations in the hands to their families. All the food from spicy sausages to heavenly biscotti was awesome. The Burgh Bits and Bites tour is for sure the most interesting, tasty and comfortable way to explore the Strip District and highly recommended - even for locals who are interested in some behind the scenes information about the neighborhood.

Great way to spend an afternoon

My husband and I found the tour to be both delicious and informative. Our only regret was that it was over too soon. The samplings were great and the guide was very good. This was an experience that I would recommend highly.

The Bloomfield Tour was awesome. It was the second time I took the Tour. The first tour was with my husband, this tour was with my girlfriends. Merante gifts is a special surprise "secret" part of the tour that should be experienced by all. My friends were truly amazed by the history Gabe gave us of the area, the delicious food and shopping experience. We loved being able to attend the Catholic Churches both for visits and mass.

Tour guide very informative about area and history. Two groceries that prepare their own pasta and sauces. Pizza place ok. Yogurt nice but kind of new. Then hamburger restaurant. All in all, fun day, and we were stuffed. Purchased sauce and homemace raviolis.

This is my second tour with you. Did the Strip tour a month or so ago. That was the best time so I called some other friends to try the Bloomfield tour. Now I think this tour is the BEST. (Gabe was wonderful.) Could I turn into a BurghFood Groupie??? Just might. Can't wait to do the other locations. Have been telling everyone about the fun (and food). Although I do live about 50 miles from the city, I had shopped in the Strip and Bloomfield many times, but I tend to visit always the same shops & had no idea about the history. Made a lot of discoveries of new interesting places on the tour. Such a wonderful idea & your group leaders are great. Can't wait till the next time. Will tell others, how could I not, so so fun! Thanks
