On these tours, the guide that you get makes all the difference. Our guide's name was Ian, and not only was he very engaging, but he had a tremendous knowledge of the history of Charleston and how it related to the various "ghost stories" he told. Also, no cheesy attempts at "scaring" the people on the tour. He told his stories with flair and wit. Overall, it was a highly enjoyable experience. If you take this tour, hopefully you will get Ian! |

We were very excited at the prospect of our tour, and horribly disappointed. Our tour guide seemed very disinterested in what she was doing. Other than the rehearsed stories at the few sites, she did not interact with the tour group at all, she even was texting on her cell phone as our group walked in silence from location to location. We were expecting someone who really knew a lot about Charleston and its past, but got someone who could only recite a few ghost stories, and without any real conviction. My boyfriend had been on a tour on a previous visit, and his tour guide was outstanding, and that was the experience we were expecting. Our tour guide couldn't even answer simple questions, and rather than discussing the history of locations, would explain them with sayings like "it was just like the movie the Pirates of the Carribbean." Hardly what we were paying $$ for. And the "climax" - the cemetery where the spectral photo was taken was another let down. We were on the night tour, and our guide admitted that her flashlight had been dead for "a few days", and she would show us photos from her book with the aid of the light from her cell phone and say "this would be so much better with a flashlight!"... uhm... we agreed. Very disorganized, not entertaining or educational, and a complete waste of time and money in a city that offers such a rich historical experience. |

It was a waste of money. Most of the info was a repeat of what we heard on a horse and carriage ride |

This was an extremely informative tour. The guide knew an enormous amount about the history of Charleston. However, it got a little wordy and my group's attention began to wander. It was advertised as a ghost tour, but honestly, it wasn't scary at all and only a few ghosts were even mentioned. We would have preferred less history and more ghosts.
On a more positive note, our guide took good care of the tour members. He was careful to find spots for us to sit, and evened shortened the route for an older person who was having some trouble walking on the cobblestones. |

Ian was our tour guide. He was extremely knowledgeable of all things Charleston and was very passionate and expressive while reciting his stories. |

My wife and I participated in a tour on March 31, 2008 and found the tour to be very enjoyable. Our guide, Ian, was very well prepared, provided a wealth of interesting information about the ghosts of Charleston, and was one of the most informed people we found. Although there were a number of tours available, we are glad we selected this one. |

It wasn't always easy to hear the person doing the tour. Too much background noise under some circumstances. |

Very knowledgeable guide, did not try to "scare" us
Had a small group including my young daughter, she enjoyed it as well.
I liked the photos and diagrams he showed us to better explain his stories
Recommend for family ghost tour. |

My 9 year old twins enjoyed the tour very much. It wasn't too scary for them but kept their interest. My son could pretty much recite the tour guide's stories word for word after the tour so he had listened very intently.
Overall you get the feeling these are canned stories memorized from a book. But it's still fun to walk around the beautiful city and learn a little history. |
