My family has taken 2 ghost tours in the past. In general we have always found them to be an entertaining way to pick up some additional local history and interesting stories. This was my least favorite ghost tour. I found our tour guide to be difficult to understand, as did my teenage children. (We haven't decided if this was due to his insistence of speaking in a "spooky voice" or the usage of every 8 letter word in the dictionary). I felt more emphasis was placed on the book this particular tour has published than just being entertaining!

Veteran of multiple Ghost tours (Gettysburg, Savannah, etc) and this was by far one of the finest we have been on. Guide was knowledgeable, witty, and entertaining. Highly recommend this tour above all others and the conclusion was completely spine tingling.

historically interesting, no ghost wow factor

If you're interested in a little history, go...if you want a thrill, this is not it. Can't really reccomend it as a 'Ghost 'tour. I guess we were expecting a little more "spook" in the tour, and the other tours we kept meeting up with took away some of the 'ghost' ambiance. Our guide was intertaining and knowledgeable, but we walked by many interesting looking places that were not mentioned or referenced. The neatest place we went to was the Unitarian grave yard, but several in our party were attacked by fire ants - so, bug spray extra on the feet and legs!

I have taken many tours including ghost tours, historical tours, ect.... but the ghosts of charleston was by far my favorite tour so far. This tour didnt remain on earth but took me far from the realms of an ''average' ghost tour. you live the terror, the romance, and the pain of the ghosts you will hear about. and this tour takes you inside one of he most mystical places on this planet, to the out of this world Unitarian church grave yard. my experiances here were some of the best in my life. many people think that a ghost tour means that there will be men dressed in costumes jumping at you with a hatchet, but these stories are as real as you and me. I highly recomend this tour.

Not very impressed

The guy that gave us the tour was certainly a great storyteller, although sometimes he spoke too fast. He's been doing it a long time and it shows - he really knew his stuff. However, I wasn't impressed when we only saw 3 places that are deemed to be haunted, when he said there are potentially thousands in Charleston. Then, one story he told was good, but I didn't see where he was talking about a particular place where we were standing. All in all for the price, I wouldn't recommend it. Too much for too little. The guy was really good, but not worth me paying $75.

Spellbinding tour, our guide was not only knowledgable but well spoken and a fabulous story teller. Our teenagers, 13 and 15 found this tour to be the perfect combination of creepy and enthralling. We loved it as well and recommend it. We had the tour our first night in Charleston and it was the perfect start for our vacation.

Dramatic presentation of tales spiked with history

Our guide was clearly very well-educated generally as well as in the history of Charleston. Very dramatic delivery, not a museum tour. The material and language was family-friendly, although my young sons did announce after the first story, "That was creepy!" and then demanded to sleep with us that night. Proof of tales well-told. We took an evening tour, so darkness descended as we continued through the city streets, and I would recommend this effect. The Unitarian church graveyard was beautiful and surprisingly peaceful. Not at all what I expected. At one point, as I saw another tour led by a woman in a pirate costume, I was glad to have chosen this tour, as theirs looked a might bit cheesy. It was a fun way to get in some history and exercise with active kids.
