FUN

My 9 year old twins enjoyed the tour very much. It wasn't too scary for them but kept their interest. My son could pretty much recite the tour guide's stories word for word after the tour so he had listened very intently. Overall you get the feeling these are canned stories memorized from a book. But it's still fun to walk around the beautiful city and learn a little history.

Very Interesting

This tour was overall very nice. We had 5 in our group with ages ranging from 18-52. It talked about alot of the history of Charleston with ghost stories trickling in here and there. We thought it was going to be all about ghosts but it was not. Even though it was not exactly what we were thinking it turned out to be good.

Our guide , Ian(sp), was very knowledgible and had a good command of the subject matter. I was kind of disappointed that it was just myself and my wife. A larger group would have made it more interesting.

We were expecting to see ghosts but we learned some history, local legends, and some funny jokes! I would certainly recommend this tour to friends.

Absolutely Loved the Tour and Tour Guide

My mother and I enjoyed this tour tremendously. We give it a 10 out of 10! Our tour guide, Ian (hopefully I spelled correctly) was very impressive with his knowledge and enthusiasm. He took his time as he led us through the beautiful streets of Charleston. My biggest fear when booking this tour online was that we would get a guide who just shared information you could read from a book. The opposite happened. He really seemed to have an appreciation for the history and stories that he shared. There was only two of us on the tour and instead of rushing through it he took his time and explained everything thoroughly. Enjoyed the tour very much. Thank you to Ian who made this tour very enjoyable. Please remind him there were two questions we needed the answers to when we come back in June for another tour! Thanks again, Bennie and Trish.

Excellent history overview of Charleston!

It was amazing to hear all of the stories and history of Charleston, and to think, it was only a couple of hours. We could have spent all day with our tour guide and would have still wanted more time. This is a great way to get a lively and enthusiastic history lesson and to remind you to not forget about America's great history.

We did the ghost tour while vacationing. My kids were really excited about it, but I think they were a little disappointed. It was more about history and short on ghosts. I think it was a good walking tour, but I wouldn't pay that much money again for it. The tour guide was nice, but not much of a conversationalist. It could have been a bit more interactive. Thank you.

Just Not Worth the Money in Comparison to Others

I've been on a few ghost tours so I know to what expect from them but I was seriously disappointed with this ghost tour. I sat down with about 8 brochures before I picked the one for this tour. I picked this one because it didn't make any silly promises about ghost sightings, it said there would be a grave yard and a dungeon, and over all, the brochure looked really professional as opposed to the others that had lame ghost images, neon letters, and silly font. Additionally, it was 'endorsed' by the likes of CNN, Times, Travel Channel, etc. and it was based on a book. Seemed like the most legitimate choice, it was also the priciest - every other tour offered a discount and had lower ticket prices to begin with. The tour was a complete disappointment. The tour guide was nice but it just wasn't interesting. I did enjoy the historical facts he shared with us (albeit that some were incorrect) but the scary factor was nil. While I knew that this tour was based on a book, I definitely didn't think the book would be a part of the tour. We kept stopping to look at images in the book or xeroxes of images - patently not scary. We didn't go inside the cemetery which was really irritating especially after the group behind us from another tour company was unlocking the gate to go inside just as we were walking away. We also didn't even discuss the dungeon, other groups get to go inside I realize the exclusive right to see these places on tours is sold to tour companies but if you're not providing that service your tour should be cheaper than the ones that are - at the very least, the tour company shouldn't be misrepresenting the content of the tour on the brochure. Probably the most annoying aspect of the tour is that it all ended on a really busy street at peak bar hopping time. So guess what happens, the group gets heckled by drunk ignorant college kids. As if that couldn't have been foreseen. It's no secret that people look down on tourists for doing cheesy touristy things, like ghost tours, so ending the tour on one of the busiest streets in Charleston is just plain stupid. No one in my group of 4 was happy with the tour. I was mercilessly made fun of for the rest of the night for having chosen it. Ultimately, making fun of the tour was more fun than the tour itself. With all that said, the other person in my group that wrote a review about the whole experience and got a threatening email from the guide of our tour saying that he would sue him for libel. Which is ridiculous, of course. I suspect he didn't realize that ours was a group consisting mostly of law students. Just stay away.

Our great tour guide had some visual aides of pictures which were very helpful. But what I would suggest is instead of xerox copies (taken from the author's book, I presume), it would be great if you could give each tour guide *good* copies of actual 8 X 10 (or whatever size) pictures to show. With xerox copies, it just looks cheap. I think that would improve your tour immeasurably, because the use of even the xerox pics were extremely effective. You can print copies of pictures fairly cheaply nowadays.

This was not a tour based on ghosts!

The Ghosts of Charleston tour was not at all what we expected. It was an excellant source of information for the history buff, but we thought that we were paying for a more ghostly, spookier look into the Town of Charleston. We were disappointed that there was very little ghost tales and haunting sites. If you are looking for the more historical side of this tour, then this would be just right for the history buff. I think that calling it the Ghost of Charleston is very misleading. We wanted SPOOKY....
