Hi - The guy who gave the tour is a young guy and was talking and walking way too fast for some of the older ladies in the group who had also enjoyed some after dinner drinks apparently. He didn't really have a great storytelling talent...spoke with the rapidity and patter of a used car salesman actually. There's an art to building suspense and tension with tempo and dramatic pause in the kind of tales he was telling. He needs to listen to really good storytellers and hear more than just the story. Had a feeling he was rushing through it to be done with it. He was a nice enough guy and the information itself was interesting.

I was disappointed.

I had heard good things about the ghost tours given in Charleston from other friends and family members-they all recomended we give it a try. Our tour guide took us on a fairly fast pace for some distance before he stopped and gave a few facts about the spot we stopped. He was a nice young man, but not much of a guide. In total, we did much more walking and very little ghost talking. We stopped maybe 5 times for a very few minutes each time. The guide did not even take us back to the fountain where we had started the tour. (Remember, we are not Charleston natives and are not familiar with the city in the dark!) This is what I had expected: A slower walk with interesting ghost or strange history tidbits. I expected to be taken at least in sight of where the tour originally started. I know these are just for entertainment, but I feel ours was not entertaining enough and would not recomend it or go on another.

The tour provided a great lesson in history about Charleston with some spooky elements. I expected some tour guide trying the scare us to death, but instead was pleasantly surprised. I felt like we got some "inside information" on some of the histoery that only a local would know about.

Stay Away from this Tour

Since I have been on Ghost Tours before, I was quite excited to give this one a try. Our family of five adults were in a small group with three other tourists. (all elderly women). Our tour guide met us at the appropiate time. I will highlight the issues with the tour: 1. He spoke too low 2. He was NOT a storyteller and made the stories so boring, two people in our group wanted to leave. 3. His mannerisms were staged, yet not theatrical, so it came off as silly. 4. He literally stopped in mid-sentence to stare at a girl as she walked by, and then after several uncomfortable seconds looked back at us and said, "Well..." 5. We stood in several parking lots for our "stories" 6. One parking lot was grimy and rather scary and not in the ghostly sense. 7. We did a lot of walking and some of the elderly people were quite tired. If we were going to stand in parking lots, why didn'e he just allow us to sit at the waterfront. 8. We really never got the feel of Charleston or it's ghosts. He'd stand at a corner and say well way over there somewhere there was this ghost, etc. 9. Basically it was amaturist, and dull. 10. It was a complete waste of our money and time.

We enjoyed the ghost stories on the tour, and our guide seemed to be having fun too. The kids in our party, ages 4, 5 & 8, would probably have preferred a shorter ghost walk, but they remembered some of the stories days later and shared them with other people who weren't on the tour with us.

Our tour guide was really entertaining and knowledgeable. My husband and I really enjoyed the tour! The most amusing part was the first ghost he talked about was one at our inn - The Battery Carriage Inn!! I would recomend this tour. We had a small group and asked lots of questions to which our tour guide was more than happy to answer.

Teenagers enjoyed/adults so-so

We were a group of seven. Four adults, two teenagers and one pre-teen. The kids really enjoyed our guide. He was a college student and I guess that was why. The adults were disappointed with the presentation itself. When we first started our tour at South End Brewery, I found the guide went on and on. Monotone. Got lost in his own thoughts. By the end of the tour he seemed to got better, but still had the moments of losing his train of thought. I expected a bit more "drama" for a ghost tour and our one teenager in the group (who read your book) said there were other stories much better than the ones our tour guide told us.
