Exciting & Informative Ghost Tour
Mon, Jul 13  7:30 PM travelqueen5 Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
This tour began at the Waterfront Park at 7:30 p.m. With the darkening skies and looming showers, the setting was complete. The guide was excellent and very engaging. His knowledge of the area, along with his ability to present the information, kept everyone in the tour group engrossed. Walking through the alleys, seeing the symbols from days gone by that were used in an attempt to ward off the spirits and then moving on to the cemeteries and hearing a personal account with a well-known Charleston ghost made for a most informative and exciting evening. We snapped a couple of ghostly photographs that our tour guide has asked us to email to his office. We will do so as soon as possible. We will recommend this tour to anyone who is visiting Charleston.

Not Scary But Entertaining!

The tour wasn't scary at all, but the tour guide set a slightly eerie and spooky tone for the tour. I liked that the purpose of the tour wasn't to scare the audience because that would've made it cheesy and amusement park like. Instead, the tour guide was a wonderful story teller. He was extremely informative and knowledgeable about the history of Charleston. He also cared if he could be heard by the entire group. It was nice that he was so concerned about the quality of the tour. The guide tells ghost stories of the area as he escorts you to each place. In fact, the tour ends in a graveyard, which is really cool. If you find history fascinating then you'll really enjoy this tour. It was a really nice walking tour of Charleston as well. We did this our first night there and it helped us get familiar with the area for the rest of our trip. This tour definitely wasn't a waste of time. You'll walk away with interesting facts about the paranormal activity that is intertwined into Charleston's history.

Great Ghost and Charleston History Expereince
Fri, Jul 10  9:30 PM deloresmorri Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
Not only was the Ghost Tour a fun experience, it was also a real lesson in the history of Charleston. The late tour, after dark, was a thrilling adventure! Just know that when you are standing in the dark, dark cemetary, you are not in Disney World and those are REAL spider webs right above your head with REAL spiders! Ian was a great tour guide and a great story teller....making the tour enjoyable and very worthwhile! Be sure to buy the book as you will want to learn more on your trip home!

Local embarrassed by quality of tour
Fri, Jul 10  9:30 PM elaine5242 Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
My extended family from Texas recently came to visit Charleston for the first time. I was excited to show them around the town that I love and now live in. My husband and I had taken a different ghost tour a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. My family expressed an interest in taking a ghost tour so we decided on this one because it was a different route from our previous tour. From start-to-finish I was disappointed in this tour. The guide tried unsuccessfully to make ghost-related jokes and was really just pathetic. Some of the stops he made were totally unrelated to the ghost story he was telling and the tour was uninteresting and relatively boring. Nearly every person in our group was wishing they were somewhere else and looking at their watches to see how much longer we had until the end. I would not recommend this tour and anyone reading this review should find another tour. I wish I had listened to the negative reviews before booking our tour. I will go elsewhere the next time.

Fantastic Tour Guide

Ian was the best tour guide. We truly had an enjoyable time. He was extremely knowledgeable. The pace was great. Ian handled obnoxious tour members tactfully. Ian was very enthusiatic and made us want to know more about Charleston history. We would highly recommend this tour. We are very happy that we took this tour instead of all the tours everybody told us we should have signed up for.

Overall worth the money

I do think they took us to businesses to try and drum up more business for the places, but our tour guide was very entertaining. Older gentleman with glasses...I can't remember his name. I think if we didn't have him as a guide it would have sucked. I say it was worth the money because going into the graveyard at night was awesome. We had happened across the Unitarian Graveyard earlier in the day, so thats the whole reason we took the tour to be able to see it at night. My other recommendation is to go into the graveyard during the day. It was beautiful and interesting in that they leave it all overgrown and "natural" looking.

Excellent Tour and Guide

Our tour guide, Ian, was fantastic. He was personable, energetic and very knowledgeable. The tour was both entertaining and informative. I grew up in Charleston and didn't know half of what he presented to us. He has the ability to take places that I just took for granted and present them in a new and interesting light. If you take this tour I hope you get this guide. Definitely worth the price.

So So

It was interesting, but the guide was cheesy. We mostly stood in parking lots and talked about different stuff. When first meeting up with the group not really sure what was going on, seemed a bit shady. Didn't have to confirm anything with the guide, only the name. Even though they were sold out a few people hoped on at the last minute, which I think is why our guide was cheesy...for all I know the guide pocketed the new peoples cash and his buddy took over for the other half of the people that got bumped due to the new people coming on. I won't do another one of these tours again with this company, it was way too expensive for what I experienced. Having talked with other people that have done other tours, we drew the short end of the stick. The stories others told were far more entertaining than the ones we heard. In all honesty, if I was 9 it would have been great, but I'm not 9 and it wasn't all that good.

Fun even for the cynical

I am not one who believes in ghost. I took this tour in hopes of a little fun and to learn more about Charleston's past. Both happened. The tour guide conducted the tour in a way that was fun, informative and respectful of those who believe and those who don't.

Not worth the money

The tour was more walking than any stories. The 2 ghosts stories were given with too much acting like they should be spooky (the woo-woo's) but not any good meat to the stories. The tour was over booked and we had what was apparently a substitute guide. I have been on ghost tours before and found them interesting and have recommended taking the tours to my friends and family. This is not one that I or my sisters would advise. It left me dissappointed and not even interested in following up on anything (there wasn't any stories to follow up on). The last and worst part of the evening was that at 11pm we were left in an area of town that was not where we started the tour. The guide did give directions back to the original meeting place, but it was dark, not many people around and we weren't familiar with the city. Getting back to the car was much creepier than the tour.
