Our Tour Guide I think his name Eric was the BEST!!! We really learned alot of history and loved the stories. When we do this again we have planned to come back . He really got in to the storeis. He showed a serious side of the stories and ended up with a lighten view to make you laugh. He was awesome and the tour was the best.

Perhaps I expected more. I just wasn't wowed by the stories. There was nothing wrong with our guide Ian. He was VERY passionate in his presentation. Excellent eye contact. Brought everyone into the stories. The places visited were fine. The night could not have been more perfect. Dreary with drizzling rain. Again, I can't explain the way I feel. I can't say it was a "fun" experience. Perhaps the topic was to morbid to be "fun". Were my expectations too high? Did I want to be scared more? Was our group not exciting?

Fantastic Ghost Tour

Our guide was the most enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide for a ghost tour that our family has ever experienced. We have been on ghost tours in the UK (London and York), Edinburgh, Paris, Washington, DC, New York, and Annapolis. Never before had we hung on every word of the guide who was in perfect character for the entire tour. Additionally, there was so much other Charleston history that was skillfully woven into the ghost tales that it was educational as well. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Charleston, SC.

We signed up for the Pirate Ghost Tour, but saw nothing on Pirates. We have been on ghost tours before, but this one was very average.

Our tour guide was enthusiastic, informative, and very knowlegeable. We were however disappointed that we did not see a number of the sites listed on the brochure.

Our guides name was Ian. He appeared to be very knowledgeable regarding the area and the subject matter he presented. He also presented himself as a learned individual and apparently has conducted detailed research regarding the information he was relaying. Ian definitely has a command of the language, but at times it was a little above the individuals in the small group; one had to listen intently to catch the nuances in his storytelling. Note, the purpose of the tour was to learn about the ghosts of Charleston...and Ian did that very well; perhaps to the exclusion of other information that may be of interest to visitors to the city. The best ghosts tours my wife and I have experienced have included a historical background the area mixed in with ghost stories/experiences. There is no doubt Ian could blend more of an historical reference/background in his tour along with the ghost stories/experiences; he is an excellent story teller. Finally, Ian continually referred to a book that was published some years ago. We were quite interested in purchasing a copy of the book. The next day we visited the local bookstore in Charleston only to find that the book has been out of print...and the bookstore could not order any copies. We were understandably disappointed. So I would recommend that Ian inform the members of his group that his reference is not for sale.

too long

I have gone on numerous ghost tours around the US. this one was not one of my favorites. The stories were too long and drawn out. of all the tour my favorite part was the cememtary. I would recommend lanterns to help see the ground. Walking on the cobblestone roads and uneven ground it would help to see the cracks and uneven spots. I would also recommend not having children on the tour. If you are going to continue the length of the stories and the grusome details the kids shouldn't be there. Our group was adults, however the family that joined us had a 10 yr old boy and he didn't handle it well, making it not as exciting as it could have been for us.

We booked this tour as something fun to do, and to help us explore the city. While the information presented was extensive, there was perhaps too much "lecturing " and not enough fun in the presentation. Our dissatisfaction lies largely with our guide, who was somewhat unprofessional and removed. He entered the meeting area smoking a cigarette, and did not look around or approach anyone waiting in the area. When we approached him, we were asked if we were with the group, and he then suggested we "sit down and take a load off" as we were waiting for others and had a lot of walking ahead of us. His questions to the group members regarding where they were from, etc. were cursory at best. The general feeling of the evening was that he had to do this, and then was on to better activities. His presentation was fair, but again, he never really engaged the group. We were disappointed enough to leave the tour before the end.

Great tour guide but we wanted more ghost stories

We enjoyed our tour and tour guide he was very nice and told us fun facts about the city. However, we would have liked to have been inside of the buildings where ghosts had been sighted. This would have been more realistic rather than standing outside. Would have liked more ghost stories on the walk.

Enjoyable Experience

We spent two hours on the tour and the guide spoke almost continuously. I enjoy ghost tours because they are available at night and few other attractions are open after a day of business travel. The guide related his personal ghost encounter at the cemetary which was amazing to hear. Despite a light drizzle that night, I enjoyed the tour.

Disappointed

The tour provided a good opportunity to see many old places in Charleston that were very interesting. Unfortunately, the tour guide (who was very nice), was not very vocal and did not seem to be a good story teller, which on this type of tour is essential to having fun. Glad we went, but felt the tour underachieved its potential for entertainment.

Not too scary

Overall, we enjoyed the program -- some interesting history was provided, and it wasn't too scary for younger kids and those who were a bit nervous. On the other hand, there wasn't enough fright for those who hoped for a little more from this tour. The first story, told while sitting in the park, was a little lengthy and probably could have been trimmed -- our guide lost the kids (even the teens) with some of the financial details of the man watching his ship depart the harbor; they got a little restless during the first story. The tour lasted longer than expected, which was OK with us -- definitely got our money's worth with the extended time. Our guide was pleasant.
