Ghost tour could be better
Sat, Jul 21, 07   9:30 PM pirty792000 Female 20-29 Unspecified Family With Children
I really liked the tour guide, very knowledgable, but i was not impressed so much with the tour. For all the walking that was involved, we didn't get to actually "see" anything. I'm not saying ghosts, necessarily, but we never went inside anywhere. We walked around, heard all the stories that we (my son and I) had read about...but never went anywhere but the sidewalks. I was not impressed. We would like to go on other tours, but are they the same? Because if so, I'm not spending $40.00 for the same, disappointing trip.

Disappointment

The web site made it look as if this were the best tour in Charleston, and that spaces were so limited you'd need to purchase tickets far in advance in order to get in on this tour. My family has gone on ghost tours all over the south, and this one was the worst by far. We were the only people in our group, our tour guide was less than enthusiastic, and the stories weren't so great, either. They could have been made better if the guide had felt more like putting effort into it. I suspect that the small group (of four) was disappointing to him as well. Never again.

Okay, not sure I would go again

The tour was okay but I am not sure I would go again. The tour started late and our guide person did not show up, so we had to go with another tour. The guide did a good job but he was hard to hear, I thought he would wear some kind of microphone but he did not. According to the reservation, he would be wearing a black shirt and carrying a book. He had on a white shirt and the book was not easily accessible. We finally had to ask if he was the ghost tour guide. We also thought the tour would be a little bit spooky but it was not. Just a walk through the city with a few stories.

If you like parking lots, take this tour

Perhaps my son and I just got unlucky, but for a ghost tour this was a real sleeper. A second guide did not show, so we wound up with a large group. Not a good sign. I have been on many tours before and everything is in the way the story is told. Our guide had no finesse in story telling and at one time while we sat in a park, I fell asleep. Perhaps he was bored with his job, but I would say, get another job. The greater disappointment was in the locations as to where he told the stories. 3/4's of the time we were in parking lots, somewhere near a location where something might have occurred. Other times we were several blocks from a home or church where there was a viewing of a ghost. I was told on the phone we would visit cemetaries and, yes, we visited them in the stories. Next time I will be more specific. If you like to take walks through Charleston in the dark I would buy the book and review it as you walk, but save your money by not going on the tour.

Could have been done much better

Our guide, Jake, is a very pleasant and engaging young man - though perhaps a bit more in love with the sound of his voice than with providing an experience worth the money for the ticket. We had expected to be taken inside homes or rooms or graveyards where ghosts have been seen instead of standing outside buildings while the stories were told. The experience could be made much more personal and scary.

Fun Times, Good Stories

Our Tour Guide was very enthusiatic and knowledgeable of the histories of the Charleston area. His presentation was entertaining and engaging as we traveled the dark and historic areas of the old city. I learned a lot of the city's past and present as well as enjoying myself along with my wife. We'd recommend this to any friends interested in tours of Charleston.

Animated tour guide

Well a group of two other friends and I went on a roadtrip to Charleston, SC and were very pleased with The Ghost Tour of Charleston. I picked up a flyer from our hotel in West Ashley and soon called in to make reservations. I liked the fact that reservations were readily available to us. Our tour guide Ben, was such a hoot! I appreciated how interactive he was with his ghost stories. He made the tour much more animated and dramatic. Thanks Ben!!

The Ghosts of Charleston tour

My husband and I enjoyed it thoroughly..the guide was a fantastic storyteller, enthusiastic and dynamic. There were great ,spooky , believable ghost stories and also some town history pointed out along the way. We took the 930 pm tour, which I would highly recommend, especially when hearing ghost stories outside the cemetery!

Waste of time

Some interesting stories, but always told from the outside (i.e. for some reason we were always standing outside of graveyards listening to stories as we watched people on other, presumably better, tours walking through the graveyards). Somehow, standing near an allegedly spooky place (or not even anywhere near it, in a few cases) while listening to a story of something that happened there doesn't really get the job done. This tour could have been accomplished as story time in a library with far less effort required, and without losing much in the way of experience or content. I strongly recommend choosing another tour. So did my hotel's concierge, and I wish I would have listened to her.

Informative, but not all that scary
Sun, Jul 8, 07   9:30 PM Dottie8903 Female 20-29 Local Group of Friends
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and energetic, so he made the tour entertaining. But I would have liked to be able to go into more buildings and graveyards to make it more real. I was expecting to be spooked, but it was really just a regular historical tour with a few scary stories. We had a group of 9, and no one was that impressed, especially for the high cost of the tour. I wouldn't recommend people take the tour unless they got a discount or had a really good coupon to make the cost less. It might be worth it for $10 a person, not $18!

FABULOUS is an understatement

We have taken other ghost tours. They were fine, but nothing like this one. We were pleasantly surprised. BEN was simply fabulous. He was informative, energetic, welcoming, personable and made the even simply fun. I cannot say enough about this company and their tour. I hope all of the other tour guides are as good as Ben. Thanks,, Ben. We will come back soon!

Jake's great!
Fri, Jul 6, 07   9:30 PM bfair59 Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
My whole family enjoyed the tour very much, found it very interesting and somewhat eerie, especially the people buried alive. We hope to return to Charleston as it takes more than one trip there to see and do all that is offered. Our tour guide, Jake ( I'm the Penn Stater if you remember, Jake) , was very entertaining and did a super job.

Amanda did a great job
Fri, Jul 6, 07   7:30 PM charliev3711 Male 40-49 Local Other
My 13 year old daughter was visiting me from Houston, and I live in Mt. Pleasant. We were not sure at first where to go, but Amanda had called my cell and we met up with her and our small group. She was extremely amiable and was trying to communicate with everyone in between our stops. Amanda was great.

A bit contrived

It was an enjoyable walk and a beautiful evening, but it seemed a bit contrived and forced. Guide was not a particularly good storyteller.
