Wouldn't do it again

Although the leader was very personable, he was hard to understand and follow. He spoke rapidly and skipped around points so that his stories were disjointed and didn't make much sense. He would leave some aspects of the stories dangling and inconclusive. Maybe better directed to a much younger audience, but even the young people in the group seemed bored. You were often left thinking, "So what?" We've gone on many tours in several US cities and in Europe and this was by far the worst and the most disappointing primarily because of the leader's delivery and content. It wasn't worth the money or the hype.

Excellent Storytelling

Our guide had a powerful voice which added to the stories he told. He really made a personal connection with all of us in the group. It was a small group, so we were able to ask lots of questions.

Okay but disappointing.

The tour was okay I suppose and the guide was extremely entertaining. My husband was asked not to video tape the tour, that was understandable, however, the one thing that really disappointed my family was that you were not permitted to to take still pictures in the cemetery. If I had known this I would not have purchased the tickets. Taking stills in the cemetery was the MAIN reason for going on this tour for both myself and my daughter. VERY DISAPPOINTING. I do feel a bit like I was scammed because the website builds up the fact that you will enter the cemetery and also tells you to bring your flash cameras, then the bomb is fired when you enter the cemetery and are told to put your cameras away and power down all electronics. If you are just interested in a few ghost stories told by an entertaining story teller then you should enjoy the tour very much. If you want to be able to walk through a cemetery and take pictures, you will be disappointed.

Great guide, great tour: learned so much!

Our tour guide was Ian, and he was a fabulous storyteller and knowledgeable historian. I came away with much history about the Charleston area and enjoyed the spooky southern tales. I highly recommend the tour, though the stories may be too complex for small children; the stories are woven with so much regional history that little ones may not get the drift, but the teenagers in our group were fine. We loved the story told in the cemetery with bats swooping overhead, fantastic fun!

not for children

we where really looking forward to this - the first thing we did as a couple alone in 14 years. We were glad we didn't have the kids with us - for them it would have been boring (for the 14 and 11 year old) and scary for the 6 year old. We had a lot of rain for the last 40 min of the tour - didn't help that the guide was speaking kind of quiet...overall we learned a little bit about the ghosts of Charleston - we saw a lot of down town - and if the weather would have played along it would have been very nice...

I don't know what I was expecting so I don't know if I have a right to be disappointed. I had expectations of visiting some haunted areas and instead there were stories that were told too quickly to understand. Maybe it was the style of this particular guide. He was nice and he tried, I left the tour early.

great stories, not enough views inside buildings

wonderful guide who was a great storyteller. The tour was rather lengthy and we were disappointed that there were no tours inside of buildings.

A lot of historical details and not too "ghostly"
Wed, Jul 20, 11   7:30 PM mbalding Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
We had long winded historical stories with not so many ghost stories. The guide was friendly but talked quickly and was hard to understand. He was more "thespian" or actor than storyteller. Not a very good tour for children - way over their heads with too many details. The cemetary was interesting to see.

History Lesson concerning historic Charleston

My daughters and I truly enjoyed our tour. Our guide was very informative reflecting on the history of certain areas and buildings in Charleston Proper and their inhabitants. I have recommended this to my friends and hope to take advantage of another tour in the near future.

We had fun and went back to visit a few of the "haunted" restaurants for dinners. My only suggestion would be that Ian should slow down his narrative a bit...it was sometimes hard to follow when he talked so fast. He was enthusiastic and engaging, though!

educational and entertaining

The ghost tour was a great way to spend an evening with the family. We did the early evening tour and our guide was a fantastic story teller. Our guide made the tour entertaining as well as educational. The tour ended in a cemetery which was quite the grand finale. Because we did the early evening tour, it was not dark out yet so it was not at all scary for any of the kids. I would recommend this tour. As a suggestion, remember to bring water and wear good walking shoes and bug spray.

Fun tour, good "Ghostly" information

While not the fault of the tour guide or the tour company, it was murderously hot during our tour. Nevertheless, we trudged on enjoying the commentary of the guide regarding ghostly haunts in a large variety of buildings and cemeteries. The stories were entertaining and complete. We probably would have been better able to understand all the the nuances of the tour had we read the book upon which the stories were based. At any rate, it was a fun tour and we would recommend it!

We got to hear a variety of stories as well as historical background. This gave the stories more substance. Our guide was knowledgable and dramatic. We had a great time.
