Had hoped for an engaging, scary ghost tour of Charleston. What we got was a perfunctory, canned speech at several stops over a 90 minute period. Guide was just "going thru the motions." All in our tour group (10 folks) were clearly bored and guide did not make any effort to engage the group or tailor his stories to the group. He had a prepared speech and delivered it. He was friendly, but couldn't mesh with his audience. (He seemed like he might be better on an architectural tour.) Unitarian graveyard was neat...but we were only there about 7 minutes...then he moved us on to the next stop on the sidewalk. Nothing scary about this tour and certainly not worth $40.

Great Storyteller

Make no mistake--this is not a scary trip. It is, however, an entertaining way to spend an evening. Our guide must have been a national speech and debate champion--his interpretation of the ghost stories of Charleston was priceless. This ghost tour gives you a feeling for historic Charleston and adds to your knowledge base. The tour ends in a Unitarian cemetery with a particularly poignant love/ghost story. An excellent location for ghostly communication!

Great Tour - Better Tour Guide

My Fiance and I, who are both avid paranormal and supernatural fanatics decided while in Charleston to go on a Ghost Tour. We were both extremely excited and enjoyed the tour given by our very experienced tour guide Ian. He intertwined just enough whit and sarcasm to keep you entertained and his knowledge of the history of charleston was impressive. We were in a group of 10 and this was perfect! If you're not into the paranormal and supernatural i could see why you could leave a negative or mediocre review, but I couldn't give the tour and our guide anything less than a 5 Star rating. Definitely go on this tour!! Pray you get Ian!

Tour guide was very informative but not a good storyteller. For the price... buy the book and walk it yourself.

We enjoyed our tour. Interesting stories and cool to have access to the graveyard. Would have liked some more ghost stories, but the guide was great and very funny. This is not a booooo tour if that is what you are looking for, but it is entertaining and very interesting.

Great Ghost Tour

This was really a great ghost tour, and we have done them in numerous cities! We liked the factual/historical information instead of the silly actors that some ghost tours include. Our tour guide was VERY knowledgable about the history of Charleston and the background for the ghost stories. We definitely would recommend this tour...and the book, too!

Adequate

I think it was a little pricey for the length of the tour. However, considering the evening was so rainy and windy the guide, Ian, did the best he could under the circumstances. He make sure were were under cover for the most part when he gave his enthusiastic reports and information. We even were encourage to purchase the book that he carried that next day.

not as good as I expected

I was looking forward to the ghost tour in Charleston, but it was not exactly as I anticipated. The guide was not the most talented storyteller, he was hard to follow, and most of the stories did not take place where we were on the "tour". I expected to at least walk up to the front of houses or buildings where these stories supposedly take place. Instead it was more like "Now a few blocks from here there is a story about..." Also the tour did not begin on time because some people had trouble finding a parking space.

Our tour guide, Ian, was excellent and his enthusiasm really made the different stories come to life. I would recommmend this tour to anyone looking to have some fun doing something different.

Horrible Experience (not in a good Ghost way!)

The tour was absolutely excruciating. While the guide had obvious enthusiasm about the subject, he was unable to clearly communicate with the group. The parts that were understandable were just plain boring. By the time he covered anything interesting, he had already lost the interest of the group. The tour was a complete waste of money and more importantly time.

Interesting, But Not What Was Expected.

Started out pretty good, but some of the group quickly lost interest. This didn't bother us since we thought the group was too large anyway. Guide was quite irrated when some of the group left and he made some inappropriate comments. There were children in our group. Enjoyed seeing the city at night and our guide pointed out some interesting symbols. Thought we'd visit Poogan's Porch since we were only about a block away, but we didn't. The time passed quickly and didn't realize our tour would end so abruptly. Not sure what happened there. Even though our group wasn't very interactive, we were listening carefully. We were not guided back to the Waterfront, but instead were just left at the church and given very vague directions on how to get back. Hopefully everyone got back safely.
