Tour guide Leigh is the best!
Fri, Jul 7, 06   10:00 AM karenharris3 Female 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
The first tour that we were given was done by a person who had no real interest in the tour itself and even made the statement during our walk that "Charleston doesn't really have a whole lot of pirate history." Needless to say we (my son especially) were very disappointed. We called the company to let them know and Leigh (who is the pirate expert on staff) graciously asked that we come back later that day and she would personally give us another tour. The second tour was absolutely wonderful and my son had a great time!

Something Different

If you're looking for a way to get your kids excited about touring historical cities like Charleston, this is a great way to do it. My children were so involved in the ghosts stories they didn't even realized they were also learning many historical facts. I highly recommend this tour to families with children 8 and older.

I was lead to beleve the gost tour was much more. I could have gone around and looked at the outside of buildings on my own and wouldn't have wasted 74.00.

Very Informative Ghost tour
Sat, Jul 22, 06   9:30 PM Disneyluvr Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Other
Time was taken to give background information on the ghost siteings, etc. Our guide also had a book which showed pictures of the people, places, and "ghost photograph" that she talked about on the tour. Please allow PLENTY of time to find parking if you are going on the last 9:30pm tour as there is literally NO PLACE to park and you may end up missing the tour. We kept driving around and finally found a parking garage a block away, but it was filled and we had to wait till someone pulled out of a spot so we could pull in. Wear comfortable shoes and get ready to walk and stand. My friend found this somewhat difficult. It's great fun and I wish we had more time to visit more sightings!

Cancelled

Unfortunately, a thunderstorm was passing through the first night we were scheduled. The tour was cancelled that night, but the guide nicely booked us for the next night. Evidently, Charleston's ghosts were not ready to play that night either and sent another thunderstorm, thus cancelling that night. We asked for a refund. The tour, I'm sure, would have been interesting. The weather just didn't cooperate.

A very informative tour

My family and I were on vacation, and my wife found this tour on the web. Our son is a huge pirate fan. Anyone who does not know the history of pirates in Charleston should take this tour. Our guide was John and he took us on the tour. It was very interesting to know Black Beard was a decent fellow, and Stead Bonner was a bad pirate. Also the other pirates were unique. We learned quit a bit, anyone who does not know much should go on this tour. The tour was terrific and we had a great time. We really enjoyed it, I recomend more people go on this tour.

Don't book till you get there.

Numerous discounts were available from Visitors Center and Hotel. Tour guide was poor. Acted as if he wished he were not there. Never made eye contact and repeatedly stifled yawns. We observed other tours that appeared to be having a much better experience.

Frustrated

The ghost tour was extremely disappointing. Our first impression of our tour guide was way too laid back bordering on unprofessional. He seemed to be a very nice guy but did not speak loudly enough. Also his stories were not told in a clear or entertaining way. Finally, there were 2 to 3 other groups at each location we visited. It would seem that the different companies would communicate and cooperate in some way to stagger the beginning times so the groups were not on top of each other. I was very disappointed.

Ghost Walk for a family
Sat, Aug 5, 06   7:30 PM sparker Female 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
The Ghost Walk was very good and was enjoyed by our family on a very hot night in Charleston. The presenters were informed and interesting, even our young grandchildren were interested in what they had to tell. Afterward, we each chose a favorite ghost story, to tell a little about among ourselves Thanks for a good, not evening.

Enjoyable diversion but not earth-shattering
Paranormalist Jim Callahan at Buxton's Theatre
Sat, Aug 5, 06   8:30 PM randyguarner Male 30-39 Local Couple on a Date
The show we attended had only 7 people total in the audience. It probably would have been more fun with a larger group. Mr. Callahan's tricks were entertaining, but he promises a paranormal experience, and that's certainly not what he delivered. It was polished but very easy to see how the tricks were done. If the show were marketed strictly as a magic show, that would be one thing, but Mr. Callahan has to take it in another direction. He claims that he's made a deal with a man who has yet to be born. That's nothing but a silly gimmick. He uses some pendulums to "prove" that this being is present, and he shows a short film of how he originally made contact with him. That's the extent of his deal with a man yet to be born. On the plus side, Mr. Callahan is a good storyteller and performer. It is an enjoyable diversion, but don't expect to be blown away.

My husband and I were extremely disaapointed. We were highly anticipating this tour and could not wait to do the tour after reading a Southern Living review. Unfortunately, it did not live up to our expectations. A tour is only as good as your tour guide. We felt that it was boring and stale.
