My friend and I were lucky enough to have a private tour, being that it was a weeknight and early in spring. Austin was absolutely wonderful!! Very knowledgeable and entertaining, and took us to all very interesting places. We especially enjoyed the exclusive tour of the Unitarian church graveyard, and the stories of Poogan's Porch since we'd had lunch there. Highly recommend this tour for individuals or groups, and recommend asking for Austin if possible! Love the new plans to provide the updated book for sale with the purchase of the tour; we are looking forward to ordering the new edition when it's available. Thanks for a great tour!

The worst ghost tour I have been on
Sun, Mar 30  7:30 PM aficca Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
I have been on many ghost tours in cities across America but this one was laughable. Our guide was filthy. He apparently was uncomfortable having only a small group of females. He had memorized his script and was not happy if we interrupted his speech with a question. His stories were dull and boring and generally didn't pertain to the buildings in our proximity and often did not even pertain to Charleston. I kept waiting for him to get into the spirit of the tour and waiting for the "big story", but it never came. The biggest complaint we had of our guide, Kyle, was that he suddenly turned to our group and announced the tour was over. We were several blocks from where the tour originated, which was where our cars were parked. So two groups of women had to walk, alone in the dark and cold, in an unfamiliar city, to our separate vehicles. I thought this was reprehensible and very contrary to the typical southern manners we had experienced up until that point. I would not recommend this tour to anyone.

Rainy, Spooky NIght - Perfect for a Ghost Tour

Rainy, drippy, wet night - Perfect for a Ghostly Tour of Charleston. Despite the weather, we thoroughly enjoyed the tour given by John. As he said, Ghost Stories are just History lessons with a twist. He brought alot of humor and knowledge to our small group. Loved going behind the scenes and into some out of the way places. The Unitarian Church graveyard was by far my most favorite place visited - maybe on my whole trip to the Holy City. Would love to take another tour, see some new places, the next time we go back. Thanks Again - loved it!

Slightly Disappointing

The tour was ok but certainly not the greatest we've ever been on; didn't feel like there was that much 'meat'...seemed like it was a couple of ghost stories and a walk thru the graveyard...

Our children (boy 8 and girl 13) wanted to do a ghost tour while we were in Charleston, since there was so much history there. Our family is a little on the nerdy side and enjoys history/museums etc. My husband and I reluctantly agreed and were prepared for a cheese fest of "oogga booga" type creepy ghost stories. We were so pleasantly surprised. Our tour guide was fabulous. So funny, so knowledgeable about the area and it's history, answered any question my 8 year old could think of (and lets face it...8 year olds are full of them). The kids are now wanting this book. Out of everything we did on our vacation, aside from the food, this is hands down our families favorite. Wish I could remember our guide's name. He deserves a raise!

Our group of friends really enjoyed this tour, and thought our tour guide did a wonderful job. He provided entertaining historical stories of the local haunts that even skeptics could enjoy. Plus, unlike other tour companies, it offers a tour of the graveyard of the first Congregationalist church.

Our guide was informative, and entertaining without going "over the top" with his stories. He was very polite and was careful to keep his humor appropriate to the group without offending.

Mildly entertaining but not worth $18

The ghost stories we were told were not scary at all, so it just ended up being another historical tour. Our guide seemed to get confused about dates and appeared flustered when we asked him questions. He also left during the tour to go to the bathroom - I didn't think much of it at the time, but that was 5 minutes of our hour-long tour that we missed. I would say the tour itself was worth $7 or so, not the $18 we paid.

We really enjoyed taking this haunted walk. Great stories about the infamous ghosts of Charleston. Learned a lot of history, and even had access to a gated area not open to the public at night. Don't want to give too much away, but would LOVE to even take the same tour again.

The tour guide talked about all his other jobs, as a tour guide for restaurants, his personal history, including his background as a dance instructor for Fred Astaire Dance Studios. This took some of the mystery out of the walk, and he was late, so we stood around for 25 minutes until he got there. Probably would recommend a different tour company next time..
