The tour in general was okay, but two things stood out to me that needed improvement.
#1- the tour guide, while knowledgeable in history, was not very energetic. For one thing, she complained about her other job (teaching) for the majority of the trip. It so happened that many of the people on the tour were also teachers, but I still don't think they all wanted to hear her talk about how terrible her students were for much of the tour. It seemed to come up at every stop. In addition, she was not enthusiastic about the food, and not only that, she turned her nose up at a lot of it saying she wouldn't eat it! That just didn't seem right to me...it was like she wasn't in support of the foods herself...
#2- Some of the foods served were odd foods....considering we had no choices of what to try at the places. For example, at one place they served raw beef, at another a duck pasta, and at another raw oyster shooters. Out of the 8 people in our group, I noticed that MOST people were not eating the food served. Some tried it, but seemed leery. I was surprised, because I didn't think the food served would be so adventurous, especially since there weren't other options of things to eat.
In summary, I am glad I took the tour and think it is a great idea...I only wish I could replace the tour guide and some of the dishes! |

I'm a sucker for walking tours and have been on several food tours in the US and Europe. This was my least favorite to date. The guide was very nice and did a great job putting everyone at ease, but the historical discussion was disjointed and not nearly as interesting or colorful as other historical walking tours I've been on, including an architectural tour of Annapolis. The organizers neglected to call ahead to one of the restaurants, so when we arrived the food had not been prepared and the chef refused to serve us--very bad form for a food tour. Also, the portions were the smallest that I have encountered to date on a food/walking tour. |

Too much info about colonial times, which was not specific to Annapolis or the local restaurants. It was obvious the tour guide had another job giving colonial tours. As a result, the local aspects and the actual tasting was rushed. |

We enjoyed the history interwoven with the food tasting portion of the tour. There was a variety of different foods symbolizing the town of Annapolis. Everyone was friendly and informative. BIG DRAWBACK! I would not bring children unless you are prepared for inappropriate language and sexual innuendos during the guide's speech. They give different "saying/toasts" during the walk that contain swear words and sexual references are made throughout the tour. We were disappointed in that aspect as we have been on many food and history tours as a family and have not encountered that issue. At the very least, there should be some reference to the content of the tour by the website of Capital City Colonials to allow parents to make the judgment call. |

My husband and I took this food tour last year when we visited Annapolis. We enjoyed it so much, we decided to try it again this summer. We were not disappointed. New places to sample culinary delights were added to change things up. Susan, our guide, is so knowledgeable and just as awesome this time around as she was last year. She fits everyone with an earpiece and individual receiver at the beginning of the tour, so you can hear everything she talks about as the group moves along. We didn't miss a thing.
Highlights of the food samples were the tomato gazpacho soup, crab cakes, the ice cream and the popovers. The B&B house was unbelievable. We really enjoyed touring the city and learning about the history of the area. We will surely go back again. |

The food tour was excellent. I plan to return and take another tour from Capital City Colonials. This tour went well beyond my expectations. Outstanding. |

Having Jillian as a tour guide made this a great experience. Her knowledge of Annapolis and of the food is tremendous. She interacted very easily with the owners and operators at each establishment as well as being very considerate to the needs of her group. Really worth doing many times. |

This tour was a well balanced introduction to Annapolis history flavored with a delightful mix of cuisine available there. I LOVED the anecdote of "gossip".. the context of Annapolis' emergence and decline as a port.. and the Middleton tavern story.. and the "communal bakery" prohibiting ovens in homes... that's just a smattering!
The cuisine... Piccolla Roma.. and Mark's description of the food and tour of available accomodations... what a way to tour the boat show! All of the restaurants were welcoming and a special "local flavor": was the "Smith Island Cake" at the Red Red Wine Bar... along with it's story of course.
Our tour guide was well informed, set a pace for a varied group in terms of speed in walking and information and responded to questions in a delightfully informed and professional manner.
I will "do the tour" again!
