Capital City Colonials

We're lived in Annapolis for about 5 years, so we were familiar with the general downtown and some of the history, but had never taken a tour. The tour was very enjoyable and informative. The guide was very knowledgeable and did a great job of engaging our kids (9 and 6) with the history. We especially enjoyed learning about how some of our modern day idioms began in colonial times, and some of the impact that Annapolis had in American history. Our tour even ran a little long to two hours but everyone enjoyed it thoroughly.

My husband and I had a great time during the tour. We strongly recommend it. It's a nice and fun way way to learn more about the history of the city. Our guide, Rose, was very knowledgeable and funny!

Our tour leader was incredibly knowledgeable and informative. He did a wonderful job explaining the history of the events and locations we were visiting within the larger political context of that time. He obviously enjoys his work, which made it that much more fun.

My wife and I enjoyed a private tour with Gary. Gary was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the history of Annapolis. I would highly recommend this tour to everyone. Thanks again Gary!

My husband and I along with my parents went on this tour on Nov 6. We all were very satisfied. The lengh is 3+ hours, but you really do not notice it. They give you earphones, so you hear the guide very well without the need to crowd around her -- which was impossible on some narrow streets anyway. I thought the selection of places of interest and cuisines was diverse and the tidbits of history and food were very appropriately sized. It was quite entertaining. Since both of my parents understand little English, I contacted the guide in advance for a summary so that I was able to translate it to their native language and I was appreciative of the willingness of the guide to accommodate this special request. It turned out to be the favorite trour in DC area for my parents after all. The foods we sampled: chicken gyros, locally brewed beer, coffee, gelato, crabcakes, crab soup, ice-cream, pop-overs, coconut shrimp, cabbage rolls, wine in a hidden celler and colonial beverage called shrub. It is my understanding that not every tour has the same food though, so expect something different. My personal favorite was the tour of an old kitchen in one of those colonial homes and also a visit to Sands(sp?) house full of numerous curious artifacts. I wish they included a glimpse of underground tonnels where slaves used to pass or the basement in Annapolis Inn -- so much history there! Overall it was a terrific tour, I highly recommend. Oh and they give you a bottle of water which was a very nice touch

Overall, this was a good tour with nice food. I was full by the end of the tour and didn't need dinner when I got home. I thought parts of the tour were a strange mix of pretend reenactment and modern day tour. Sometimes the tour guide would make comments as if she were a time traveller in modern day Annapolis, but she wasn't wearing a costume. I think it made things confusing/awkward feeling. I think I would have preferred either a full reenactor or just a tour guide. I think the tour consisted of too many proverbs and toasts, by the third hour it got a little annoying.

I truly enjoyed the history and food tour of Annapolis! Our guide was very knowledgable and friendly. The food was terrific and the history was very interesting. I've been recommending this tour to everyone since getting back to town.

Gary wqs an amazing guide, he made the tour informative and enjoyable. I almost felt like I had gone back in time! Our whole family loved it.

The 4 of us had a great time! Even the 6 year old! Very fun and entertaining! Easy walk for those who maybe concerned. You see a lot!

My boyfriend and I loved this food tour! Susan was an outstanding tour guide - extremely knowledgeable and kept everyone interested and laughing all day. We ate and drank so much that we pushed back our dinner reservation 2 hours. All of the food we ate was outstanding. We even got to taste some wine and beer, which I loved! I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about the history of Annapolis. I have been there once before, but never knew the great history behind it. I highly recommend this food tour to anyone. You won't be disappointed!

Our tour guide Kelsey was fabulous and she did a great job relating to and entertaining our young children as well as informing us about the historic homes of Annapolis.

As a local, I saw parts of Annapolis I had never seen! Great partnership with the tour and the restaurant and business owners. We didn't linger very long at any place, we were moving! Susan is very organized! David offered some really interesting history and architecture information - makes me want to go back and do the history tour with him!

My wife and I really enjoyed the historic tour of Annapolis with our guide, Mistress Kelsey. She gave us in depth knowledge and answered all of our questions. It was a great way to learn the history of such an important city in the colonial times.

Our guide was excellent, knowledgeable, friendly, and created a fun experience on a very very hot day. My wife and I had a great time on tour, and plan to come back to do the food tour another weekend.

We enjoyed our tour. My favorite part was the historic buildings we were able to visit. Carolyn was a fun, informative, quirky guide and we enjoyed our time with her.
