Wouldn't recommend

Too much info about colonial times, which was not specific to Annapolis or the local restaurants. It was obvious the tour guide had another job giving colonial tours. As a result, the local aspects and the actual tasting was rushed.

A Birthday Surprise

I surprised my husband with the "Historic District 101" tour for his birthday in early June. He loves history and was not disappointed with this present. We (husband, toddler, and I) met Squire Gary at the meeting point and the tour started right on time. We were the only ones that morning, so instead of a 1.75 hour tour, Squire Gary spent 2.75 entertaining us. I felt a bit ignorant because I don't know that much about American history and I grew up here! My husband knows more than me and he grew up in Europe. I mentioned my meager knowledge to Squire Gary and he suggested several books for me to read. We will definitely book another tour with this company and, more specifically, with Squire Gary. He captured our attention from start to finish.

My husband and I had a great time during the tour. We strongly recommend it. It's a nice and fun way way to learn more about the history of the city. Our guide, Rose, was very knowledgeable and funny!

This tour was very interesting and provided not only historical data, but also tie-ins to current events - such as the origins of the croquet game between St. Johns and Navy. Our tour guide, Squire Howard, was extremely knowledgable and kept the groups interest throughout the entire tour. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Annapolis!

Great tour but not for kids

We enjoyed the history interwoven with the food tasting portion of the tour. There was a variety of different foods symbolizing the town of Annapolis. Everyone was friendly and informative. BIG DRAWBACK! I would not bring children unless you are prepared for inappropriate language and sexual innuendos during the guide's speech. They give different "saying/toasts" during the walk that contain swear words and sexual references are made throughout the tour. We were disappointed in that aspect as we have been on many food and history tours as a family and have not encountered that issue. At the very least, there should be some reference to the content of the tour by the website of Capital City Colonials to allow parents to make the judgment call.

A Walk Back in Time

We were so impressed with this walking tour. Squire Howard was an excellent guide - full of interesting information and amusing stories. I am a local resident (having moved from the west coast), but there was quite a lot I was unaware of. I will definitely take out-of-town visitors on this tour again. It was well worth the price!

Guide had excellent knowledge of many different aspects of Annapolis, not just the places that we visited. Very entertaining and was engaging from the get go.

Mom & 2 Teens loved this tour

We had our tour with Howard this past week...we thoroughly enjoyed the sites and the guide. Howard was humourous, entertaining and very knowledgeable. Our group consisted of 46yr old mom, 19 yr old and 16 yr old teens. *initially prior to tour starting my daughter was moritified that I signed up us to follow a costumed guide around town....she quickly got over that as she began to enjoy the experience :)

Lots of good tastes, but...

The horrible wet and windy weather really put a damper on the tour. While tornadoes, heavy rain and flooding were forecast for the day, the tour was NOT rescheduled. So, we fought through the downpours and flooded streets, getting wet in spite of rain gear and umbrellas. These conditions made it nearly impossible to take in the history and ambiance of Annapolis, as we couldn't pause to listen to the guide or look around. The guide's voice was lost to us due to high wind, occasionally. And it was not fun to be wet and cold. Yes, most of the food was tasty, and the offerings provided a generous progressive lunch. But the conditions really dampened the experience.

Our guide was knowledgable and was clearly enjoying himself. The tour was 1 hour and 45 minutes, but it felt like 15 minutes. My wife and I were both sorry to see it end.

Our tour leader was incredibly knowledgeable and informative. He did a wonderful job explaining the history of the events and locations we were visiting within the larger political context of that time. He obviously enjoys his work, which made it that much more fun.
