Fun and Easy... but safety-management concerns

We travel frequently both in the states and abroad and I noticed a couple of things about this tour I want to share. Zevre did not have good directions and there were no directions I could use on the Segway website. I was told to call when I got into DC to get local directions from the Segway tour staff... This did not work, the man was very put out and did not know the City or how to help. At the end we were in front of the store and even at that point he could not tell us where the parking garage was after I gave him our location. He said he was coming out of the store to see our car.... turns out the garage was in sight - only 100 yrds away.
I finally asked to sign my release since no one at the store asked for a ticket of any kind, or took any ID or had anything to do with us except showing the safety film and how to use the equipment. Once we were on our way I did not trust the way we were "crossed" in traffic and it was a potential accident waiting to happen.
The staff seemed bored and disorganized. They performed their duties by rote. We would have liked more information about the sites where the tour stopped. They would start their "talk " before the group reassembled and take off without giving any preview information. The staff shared their difficulties with the DC and Park Police in terms of where and when we are permitted by law to drive the Segway vehicles so it sounded like we were "on the edge of the law'. I would assume that the Segway tour company ensured that proper legal routes were used and that all was within the DC and Park traffic laws.
The guides finished our tour early and had us ride around on an off-mall cement plaza for the last 25 minutes when we could have been at one of the sights we came to see during this time
I suggest these details be cleaned up. Even with these issues the equipment is fun and we would do it again. |

There were only six of us total in the tour group and three of them were my personal group. My friend who lives in the city recommended we try it out becuase my twin sister has arthritis in her feet and knees and we figured it'd be a great way for her to be included without being in pain the rest of the week from all the walking. She loved it, as did the two of us. The tour guide was entertaining and full of fun facts - even an impromptu stop at the Canadian embassy where he showed us his favorite "free" place in the city. My twin sister and I already decided we're returning to do another segway tour with her husband in the future. |

We got there late but were still welcomed. The two guides never lost their aplomb even though we ran into (almost literally) typical sidewalk denizens and red carpet celebrities (actually, newspeople dressed in tuxes). The tour started at 6:30--a perfect time to catch the fading light of this glorious city and avoid the day time crowded sidewalks. The guides' knowledge was fairly correct and had enough fun trivia to engage everyone's interest. The machines were in very good working order and very easy to adapt to. I would recommend this tour to everyone. As one of my daughter's said: "Who cares where we are--we're riding Segways!" But, we all decided that riding a Segway in DC was a near perfect experience. |

I really didn't know riding a segway would be so easy and fun. The ride itself is a blast, and the tour was an especially great way for our visiting friends to see the city. Would do it again in a minute. |

Great fun. Started out a tad uneasy on the Segway, but training was great and pace was fine, so I caught on within minutes. Tour guide had lots of entertaining information and stopped for several photo breaks. I would love to take this very tour again! |

We had a great time riding the Segways around DC. It was a terrific way to cover the distances from the White House to the Capitol building and by lots of major monuments. Since it was January, there weren't many pedestrians out, which left lots of room for us to zip around. Our guide was thoughtful and informative. I would like even more information on the sights and perhaps some architectural information and a little more history. |

The Segway is a fun way to see DC. They took us on a loop that stopped at many of the important sights. My wife and I took a Segway tour in Atlanta and thought it would be fun to do it in DC, our home town. The only thing I would change is the length of the tour. The Atlanta tour was 3 hours and we heard more about the city since the guide had more time. Our guides could have given the tourist on our tour more information if they had more time. I think tourist would pay for a longer tour as well. |

I arranged our tour as a surprise 30th anniversary gift to my wife and we had a great time. I signed us up with the smaller group so my wife wouldn't feel intimidated by the larger group of riders, and it being a surprise I wanted her to feel safe with the tour guide being close all of the time. The small group was just right for us and made it easier to stay together as a group. The radios made the tour even better because at each stop we could ride around instead of constantly gathering around the tour guide, plus he was able to give us directions/instructions at the cross-streets even before we got to the stop. We had a great time seeing the sights of DC and even rode along a part of the Marine Corps Marathon, sharing the road with the many runners (I did feel a little guilty because they looked like they were hurting and I was cruising along). We never felt rushed, and the segways are very easy to ride once you understand the concept, and before we even noticed it my wife and I were riding them like old pros. We had lunch at the Cafe du Parc in the Willard Hotel (my wife saw it while on the tour and that's why we ate there) and finished the day by taking the Metro to Arlington National Cemetery to pay our respects and view the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns. All in all a truly memorable day, thanks Capital Segway! |

This tour was great fun! The guide did a great job making sure everyone was comfortable with the Segway before beginning the tour, which was very helpful. I would recommend supplementing the tour with a more indepth walk around to the monuments, as the time spent at each is minimal. The draw is riding around on a Segway and seeing things quickly - I highly recommend it! |

I live in Rockville now and had a friend in from Pittsburgh, PA. He wanted to see the city but had knee surgery a few months earlier and couldn't walk without pain. The Segway tour was the way to go. Although you are on your feet for quite a while, there were times we rested and he had a chance to sit. The use of a wirless system to hear the tour guide was invaluable. A memorable event and one that I would recommend to others. |
