Under the Stars is the Best!!

My wife and I did the evening tour and thoroughly loved it! The monuments at night are completely different than in the day - the sidewalks are not crowded and you can zip along at top speed - our guide was full of great information and humor - and our whole group had a great time. Going up to the Capitol and White House at night was really nice. The segways were surprisingly easy to learn how to use - within 5 minutes, it was so intuitive that one didn't even have to think about how to drive it - it went where we wanted it to go. Highly recommended for both visitors to the city and for residents as well - it's a very different way to see the sights. Thanks much!!

We had a great time!

My nephew and his friend, both about 20, were visiting me in DC so I treated them to the tour. I've wanted to do the tour myself for some time, so I went too. We loved it! Just a couple comments: 1. Suggest that folks bring a bottle of water. We got extremely thirsty after the 1st hour. 2. Suggest that folks wear comfortable shoes because they'll be standing for 2 hours. 3. Tell folks that pedestrians have the right of way in DC, especially on sidewalks. 4. Offer an alternate route, not just the tourist route. I plan to go again, this time with a group of local friends. How about going down by the river near the Kennedy Center, for example? Maybe a certain tour-time could be more geared to local residents.

Segways offer an amazing sensation of locomotion--nothing like it! I was nervous at first but got the hang of it and really enjoyed it. The guide was kind and supportive through my initial fear--he was terrific. My teenage nephew thinks that I am the coolest aunt, for this experience. One caution: Be aware that Segways aren't permitted on Park Service territory, so you won't be seeing the monuments up close. However, the tour does cover a lot of ground, including Capitol Hill, and it is well worth it!

I've been to DC many times and was looking for a unique experience to see the sights and share something special with my Dad. He was a little timid at first, but our tour guides were really informative and took as much time as needed to show you how to properly use the Segway until both you and they were comfortable with your skills. I definitely recommend the evening tour as the temperature was nicer, you had less pedestrians to share the sidewalks with allowing you to go up to the max speed and play around on the segways, and DC is so beautiful at this time of night! My Dad and I see this as the highlight of our trip and can't stop telling family and friends about the wonderful time we had! We even have some great pictures to show everyone as our tour guide Max was so kind as to take our picture anytime we asked. Capital Segway is definitely the way to see the city!

A Total Disaster - These are NOT Safe

On July 26th, I took such a tour in Washington , DC . After about 10-15 minutes of in store training (about one minute for each member of the tour) we took off on our tour of the site from the White House - to the Capitol - the monuments, etc. After a short stop at the White House we were leaving the security area around the White House when something went wrong - not quite sure what it was – and I went flying over the handlebars of the Segway. The result - a fracture to the right side of my skull, a fractured nose, a fractured elbow and a fractured jaw. Plus I lost about two pints of blood during the process. I spent the next three days in the ER and the ICU being treated and was then sent back to our daughters home to recover. Only liquid diet for four weeks, many very painful cuts and bruises - and the end of what had been planned as a nice vacation. The point here is that these tours do NOT provide sufficient training on these hard to get used to vehicles. If I were the only one to have had such an accident, I would just chalk it off as my own stupidity. HOWEVER - the ER at George Washington University Hospital told us that they get 2-3 such accidents per WEEK. I also saw an optician while there to have him fix my sunglasses that had been badly twisted in the accident - he told us that just that past week he had two customere who had also had touring Segway accidents - one with a broken arm and one with a broken leg. I know that these Segways have been in use by mail carriers, policemen and others. I would bet a small fortune that these people receive hours of closely watched training on their use before they are cleared to ride them. It might be of interest to you to check with hospitals in other cities to see if they have had similar Segway accident rates in their cities. I do hope that you will consider taking a much closer look at these "wonderful" new machines for use by tours. Thanks for your listening - Best regards, Robert Berg Cheshire, CT

This was a work group event. The goal was to give a group of summer interns exposure to the city as their first mentor/mentee event. Everyone enjoyed the tour and it provided a different atmosphere for everyone to mingle and get to know one another.

Great tour. We were going to go on a bike tour whilst in Washington DC until we spotted the Segway tour at Capitol Hill so we went online to find out about it and are so glad we did! We've always wanted to try a Segway so we managed to sightsee and experience a Segway at the same time. Highly highly recommended!

Oh my gosh! I had read lots of reviews that really built up this Segway tour, so we weren't sure if it could really be all that good. BUT...it definitely was! Our guides, Aaron and Nick, helped everyone learn the basics of the Segway in the safe confines of their store, then we ventured to a small park across the street for some "real" practice. Even the people who were a little hesitant (like my wife) were like pros within just a few minutes...then off we went. WOW! How fun! Sure, we got to see some of the great sights in DC, and Aaron and Nick know a lot about the history of DC, but the best part was the riding around on these fantastic machines. You really feel like you're gliding through the streets and sidewalks, and you cover so much ground in this two-hour tour. Only one small negative...one of the guides, Nick, didn't seem to have as much "customer service" training as Aaron did. Aaron always made us feel comfortable and made sure we were having fun. Nick seemed to act a little more like it was just a job to him. But, please take that as a very minor glitch in what was otherwise a fantastic experience. Can't say enough great things about this. We didn't want to stop! Do it! We would definitely do this again.
