I highly recommend taking this segway tour!

My tour guide (Lenore) was awesome! She definitely topped off the amazing experience of seeing DC on a segway. She was personable, funny, proffesional, and knowledgeable. We got to see many attractions and monuments. Cruising around on these machines is fun and easy. A THOUSAND TIMES BETTER THAN TAKING OTHER TOURS!!! Bus tours may be a bit cheaper, but this is definitely worth every penny :) Thank you Lenore and thank you Capital Segway

The tour was a bonus. The opportunity to play on a Segway for a couple of hours was the highlight of the year.

Awesome ride - not such a great tour

I was in the market for a Segway for personal commuting so I decided to make a date of it with my wife. They are really easy to learn to ride and within minutes you are pretty used to the machine and ready to go and see the city. The tour guides are pretty basic in their outline of the sites but we weren't really too interested in listening to them since we are local. Out of towners would probably get much more out of it. Sights include the White House, Washington Monument, Smithsonian Castle, American Indian Museum, the Capitol, and then back to the shop. It's a fun 2 hours and I would highly recommend it for tourists that want to have some fun and get a lay of the land before they head out to do the walking tour.

A Must Do Activity!

This is the second time I've taken this segway tour - the first I was alone and this time it was my wife and another couple of friends. The equipment is first rate, our guide was fantastic, it only takes about 3 minutes to get comfortable on the segway and mostly it is just plain fun!!! Our guide allowed us to zip around and have some freedom while still controlling the route, etc. We zipped all over the Mall area and had a lot of fun. I highly recommend this. It is vastly easier and more fun than a bike, skates, etc.

Horrible experience -- waste of money

A friend of mine had previously enjoyed it. I was concerned because of my age (69). She assured me that I would get instruction and practice in the park across the street from the Segway office. As it happened, two members of our group (not associated with my friends) were late getting there. The Segway employee informed us that there was a second group coming in two hours. (We were the 6:30 group). since two folks in our group were late, we were not going to be able to practice operating the Segway in the park. Instead, we were put right out on the sidewalk, heading for the White House. My Segway got out of control in the middle of the street crossing New York Avenue and it caused me to have a severe nervous reaction, considering that a lot of auto traffic was coming my way. At this point, one of the Segway employees responded to my screams and helped me off the Segway. I had gone two blocks for $65 and was not given my money back. If I had instruction and practice, I think I could have operated the Segway, but it was obvious that the money was of more importance to the employees than the comfort and safety of the customers. Great FUN way to see DC, MUCH BETTER THAN WALKING!

We had a great time on the Segways. Yes, we did see the DC area but mainly we had fun on the Segways. The 5 minute training was short...it took a bit more than 5 minutes for most people to REALLY "get" how they work. Don't expect to get tons of information on this tour...you are mainly out there seeing the sights and enjoying the segway.

What a rush!

The first thing I did was fall off when traffic backed up on the curb ramp. So you should make the guide teach you how to STOP before you go over to the park to practice. Once I learned to stop, and more importantly, to trust the balance mechanism, it was smooth riding! What a great way to take in the sights from the White House to the Capitol without wearing yourself out or driving!

Not an ordinary tour

This is a happy, fun, thing to do. Rolling/floating along on the sidewalk is a light hearted feeling. Actually it is joyful. I think anyone who can physically stand for lengths of time and balance would enjoy the Segway tour. However I would suggest offering 2 different time frames for the tour - with 2 different price levels. I very much wanted to try the Segway, but I wear a brace on my knee. It is not possible for me to stand in one position for 2 hours. For me, I would prefer a one hour tour. Still I did sign up and go, because I just wanted to see for myself. Initially, it requires a short training time to get used to the way the Segway steers -- side to side rather than turning the handles and pressure from your toes to go forward and pressure on your heels to stop. The tour guides were informative about the White House and the other buildings and monuments we passed or paused to see. There was a guide in the front of the group and a guide in the back of the group. When I did need to end my tour at one hour, the guide was very gracious. She rode with me back to the start without any hesitation or disgruntled comments. She was very cheerful and made it clear that whatever I wanted to do -- she was totally happy to make happen. I recommend this activity.

Avoid if you have arthritis

I was expecting a great time but was very disappointed...our guide Nick was quite rude....he acted as if my mom and I were complete idiots because we didn't know how to ride one of the Segways. I have rheumatoid arthritis and it was very difficult to try and ride the thing. Actually I was only able to ride for about 3-5 minutes before I had to get off. It was very difficult to ride. I was terribly dizzy on it as well. If you have never ridden one of these, I don't recommend a tour if it is your first time riding one of these. My mom did not like it either. Trying to avoid the crowd while steering was a terror. I would never try this again.
