Would highly recommend to anyone coming to DC. Instructors were very helpful and friendly, everyone quickly felt at ease on the segways, the practice area at the park across the street was a nice touch. This tour provides a great introduction to the monuments and important people in history. The instructors were hilarious and kept us laughing the whole trip! We brought our own earphones and could hear the instructors very clearly, would recommend this as well. Thanks John and Justin for a great time. |

Unethical Non-refund Policy

We had a group of 5 people meeting in Washington DC on Sunday, July 1. Three of us drove in from Indianapolis, and two were going to drive up from Patuxent River MD Sunday morning to meet us. We planned our visit with the Segway tour being central to our visit, making reservations weeks ahead. Three persons in our group had never been to DC, and this would be a quick intro. The three of us from Indianapolis left at 5:00am on June 30, and arrived in DC late afternoon. We started seeing limbs down, traffic lights out, and lines at gas stations. When we arrived to check in at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center, the power was completely out and they could not get us another hotel in DC. They suggested that we try Richmond or further out, and being ethical offered us a full refund on our reservations. We started to hear that 1 to 2 million people were without power.
We decided to stay with relatives in Pax River, and had to drive through many areas of DC with traffic lights out. We called about our Segway reservations on our way to Pax River, at 1-800-979-3370, and they told us they only book reservations. They suggested we call 202-682-1980, but no one answered the phone and the phone did not go to an answering machine. We did not know if the Segway tour was even open, since the power was out in many areas of DC.
We decided not to attempt to go back to DC for safety reasons, because of the power and traffic light outages. I e-mailed steven@capitalsegway.com on the morning of July 1, in an attempt to explain the situation. Steve Orr replied on July 2, saying that the Segways were up and running on July 1.
A second issue with the advanced reservations is the discount for military. We have non-refundable tickets, that did not have the military discount for our nephew that is LT at Pax River. We assumed that the discount would be given when we checked in for the tour. Not only does he lose out on the Segway tour, but he gets stiffed for another $5 or so because he can't get to DC after the major storm.
Sometimes there is a fine line when deciding what is ethical or not. I fully understand that the Segway Tour needs to insure people show up, but do you stick them when there is a natural disaster? I also understand that my only recourse is to warn everyone I possibly can regarding this policy. I work for a large military prime contractor, and my nephew is in the Navy. Hopefully, we can get some satisfaction by telling scores of people not to make reservaitons with unethical companies such as this. |

This was absolutely, no doubt about it, one of the most fun activities I have ever done. We had a blast touring DC on our Segways and I can't say enough wonderful things about our two tour guides (Nick and Tyler from Capital Segway). These guys were hysterical and made the entire experience so entertaining and memorable. I would highly recommend you see DC on a Segway -- and I emphatically recommend Capital Segway for your tour. They truly do make you feel like a V.I.P. |

My friend and I really enjoyed our Segway tour of DC. The guide, Tyler, was informative, funny, and careful to take good care of us on our tour. I loved it so much I have already looked into a Segway tour in Portland, OR where I live. Thanks! |
