We had a Blast!

Our group was mixed family and friends ranging in age from 19 to 62 and we all had a great time. It was a wonderful group activity that also allowed us to be outside and tour our beautiful city -- covering a lot more ground than you would want to by walking and/or Metro. We were amazed at how easy it was and after a very short time everyone in the group was comfortable riding their Segways. Our guides, Erica and Will, were also terrific and flexible to the varied expectations of the various group members.

What a great way to see D.C.! Although you can't go into any of the buildings the tour guides (ours were Noah and Erica) were very well versed in the history of the city and it's buildings. The boys (two 16 year olds) actually learned a few interesting facts! I don't think they would have been as attentive if we weren't on the Segway! And what a blast the Segway is to ride!! It was so easy to get the hang of it! We covered so much ground in a 2 hour tour... I really couldn't believe how fast the time went by! I have already recommended to friends and co-workers! We will definitely do this tour again!

Short on history, long on fun!

Our family included four adults (two over fifty, two younger). Learning to ride the segway was fun and fairly easy for all of us. Our guide seemed reasonably knowledgeable though the history aspect of the tour was secondary to the fun of traveling around the city on the segway. Our two hour tour was about right. One hour would have been way too short. More than two hours might have been a little much for me, though the younger members of our group were ready for more. I suppose the high cost of the tour is due to the expensive equipment, but it was a little pricey.

I live locally and wanted to try out riding the machines. It was a blast. I think it was a good value and recommend it for the adventure and the novelty. I took the 6:30 tour so the walkways were not crowded and you could get some spurts of speed. You adapt pretty quickly to maneuvering.

Praise from a local with out-of-town visitors.

The tour is of the correct length and hits the best of the Mall (except for the Jefferson and Lincoln monuments - boo hiss to the Natl Park Service rules). After two hours of expert guidance by a tour leader, we were not too tired to go to dinner. It was hot for a summer day and we would not have enjoyed the long walk. I recommended the tour to visitors last Christmas and they said that the tour's two hours was as much as they wanted or needed in the cold. Our Segway joke is to say: first prize will be a two-hour Segway tour, 2nd prize is a four-hour Segway tour.

The tour was a bonus. The opportunity to play on a Segway for a couple of hours was the highlight of the year.

Awesome ride - not such a great tour

I was in the market for a Segway for personal commuting so I decided to make a date of it with my wife. They are really easy to learn to ride and within minutes you are pretty used to the machine and ready to go and see the city. The tour guides are pretty basic in their outline of the sites but we weren't really too interested in listening to them since we are local. Out of towners would probably get much more out of it. Sights include the White House, Washington Monument, Smithsonian Castle, American Indian Museum, the Capitol, and then back to the shop. It's a fun 2 hours and I would highly recommend it for tourists that want to have some fun and get a lay of the land before they head out to do the walking tour.

Horrible experience -- waste of money

A friend of mine had previously enjoyed it. I was concerned because of my age (69). She assured me that I would get instruction and practice in the park across the street from the Segway office. As it happened, two members of our group (not associated with my friends) were late getting there. The Segway employee informed us that there was a second group coming in two hours. (We were the 6:30 group). since two folks in our group were late, we were not going to be able to practice operating the Segway in the park. Instead, we were put right out on the sidewalk, heading for the White House. My Segway got out of control in the middle of the street crossing New York Avenue and it caused me to have a severe nervous reaction, considering that a lot of auto traffic was coming my way. At this point, one of the Segway employees responded to my screams and helped me off the Segway. I had gone two blocks for $65 and was not given my money back. If I had instruction and practice, I think I could have operated the Segway, but it was obvious that the money was of more importance to the employees than the comfort and safety of the customers.
