A unique way to see parts of DC

Riding the Segway is a unique way to see parts of DC and it was a lot of fun. We certainly attracted attention! We got to see the White House, the Capitol Building parts of the Smithsonian and other federal buildings but the tour doesn't include memorials or monuments due to limitations on where the Segways can be ridden. The tour guides were knowledgeable and very accomodating though sometimes I had hoped for more detail in their briefings. Riding the Segway was definitely a blast and made the tour quite enjoyable. Definitely worth the money.

fantastic excuse to explore segway riding

French friends came to visit us in DC and decided that the best way to spend their 24 hours with us was via the Segway tour. They were right. The introductory session just before the tour did include a video which could be shown in French as well as other foreign languages. So even if your English is weak, you still get the very necessary information to learn how to operate the Segway safely (if you ask them to repeat this video in the other language). I was amazed at how easy it was to learn to use the machine. We had a very pleasant route through the the Mall area, and it was a lot of fun. A note on the after-effects on your legs: Because you spend the whole time essentially standing and just shifting your weight between the balls and heels of your feet, it is in some ways more tiring than actually walking--not as much circulation for your legs as when you really walk. However, it really is fun to play with this different form of locomotion. People who love this tour should also consider the Bike-the-Sites tour on regular bicycles, especially in the evening. That tour passes by all the various monuments (Jefferson, Lincoln, Vietnam Memorial, etc) on the west side of the Mall, whereas the Segway tour concentrates more on east side of the Mall showing where the main Smithsonian museums with interesting collections are, not to mention passing by the White House and Ford Theater.

Great trip - fun way to see the city!

My husband planned this tour as a surprise for me. At first I was hesitant about riding on a segway. However, the staff were so helpful and friendly they quickly put me at ease. Plenty of practice time was given and two staff accompanied our small group on the tour. Riding on the segway was easy and fun as well as a great way to see the city. We have been on bike tours of cities before but this was a much easier ride and more fun. We were able to see all the highlights of Washington DC without any walking. The guides were also very laid back, knowledgable and helpful. I would hightly recommend this tour for all ages.

Great tour, nice photo ops. Great if you only have 2-4 hours to see the sights of W.DC.

Good fun and very worth while doing. We got to see lots of the sights, and with a humorous commentary from our 2 guides. We were surprised at how easy the Segway was to use, and by the end of the tour we were experts !! okay, maybe not experts but we sure did enjoy the experience. This something everyone should do at least once, don't be shy! Next time I visit Washington DC, I'll be sure to do it again. Mark - from the original Washington ENGLAND

Great experience We really enjoyed this trip. My only problem is figuring out the reason I need a Segway at home.

Great Fun but could be better organized

It was a great trip and a lot of fun but I think that time could be better divided if the groups were smaller. I feel that some people spent a lot of time waiting for others to catch up and others spent a lot of time catching up. It seemed like the group could easily be divided into two more comfortable groups and perhaps make all customers happier. That said, I would definitely recommend this tour to people I know visiting DC. Thanks.

I loved being on the segways. I've seen DC before so it wasn't as much about seeing the sights. I'd definitely recommend it and maybe try it again.

Capital Segway

Totally fun. Always wanted to run a Segway. Washington DC tour made it so much better. Even the spouse who has arthritis in her knees loved it. Got good info from tour guide. Already recommended to friends and co-workers. Best part was doing donuts in front of the White House. Scariest part was the safety video, the little stick figure guy dies horribly, but not to worry, we were fine! Do it!

Segways are fun!

Initally I was concerned about the learning curve for the Segway and also if my wife would be as enthusiastic as I was to try this 'new' way of touring a city - versus taking a bus / tram / trolley (or even the highly rated walking) tour. My wife took to the Segway right away and really seemed to enjoy zipping around. I requested a 'night' trip as I was keen to see the sights lit up and also to avoid the crowds and the company was very helpful in arranging that. I was concerned that the Segway's didn't have headlights (we were provided rear flashing bicycle lights), but I had no trouble navigating even in the darkest spots. The weather was perfect and the skies clear. One lady in our party came off her Segway crossing the first street, but bravely soldiered on and overcame her initial reluctance. The guide was friendly but the tour information on the sites was pretty sketchy. We'd have liked to have more historical detail. I have since overheard the City Segway tour guide and can see why they are rated #1 by tripadvisor.com versus these guys at #26. The City Segway tour is longer too, for the same price, so perhaps that is why they can provide so much more information. In summary, although expensive I can highly recommend the experience. It is definitely worth paying the extra to take a Segway. I was hesitant but I now realize it's not as much an expensive tour as a fun adventure. Our Segways were the latest and in good condition and not speed limited. No technical issues during the tour. Recommended!

My wife and I decided to take a segway tour to see the city. She wanted to do an afternoon adventure but I convinced her to take the late night tour. It's way better to do the late night tour for many reasons. There is little to no pedestrian and vehicle traffic so you can zip about as fast as you want. Our tour guide, Adam, was awesome and very helpful. We got to see the city in less than 2 hours and the weather was perfect. It was our first time riding a Segway and I can't wait until I do it again. I highly recommend this as the number one thing to do in DC.

This was just the BEST way to see DC! Our guides were terrific and very knowledgeable. Booked the 6:30 in the evening tour and the weather was perfect. Couldn't have had a better time. Great photo opportunities! Have recommended it to everyone!

Outstanding way to see the city, but expensive

This is by far the best way to see a city, way better than tour busses. However; it is overpriced. The Segways are fun and easy to use.

Segways offer an amazing sensation of locomotion--nothing like it! I was nervous at first but got the hang of it and really enjoyed it. The guide was kind and supportive through my initial fear--he was terrific. My teenage nephew thinks that I am the coolest aunt, for this experience. One caution: Be aware that Segways aren't permitted on Park Service territory, so you won't be seeing the monuments up close. However, the tour does cover a lot of ground, including Capitol Hill, and it is well worth it!
