We enjoyed the tour very much, but would have liked to have stayed longer both at the market in Charleston and at Boone Hall Plantation.
We took the carriage ride around Charleston and this was nice - the guide was both informative and funny. (Tip - if there are lots of people on your tour, it may be worthwhile hanging back and waiting for the final carriage. The first carriages were filled, but we had plenty of room on the last one!) The market had a good selection of items for sale, but by the time you have been to the restroom and had a quick look round, it was time to walk back to the tour bus.
At Boone Hall, we were shown around the ground floor by the tour guide (in costume) which was good. There is a small open air tram outside that takes you around the plantation grounds - takes about 45 minutes I believe. There is also a "slave street" of old slave houses just in front of the main house that each holds an exhibition of some aspect of slave life eg religion. When we were there, one had an exhibition of basket weaving with a lady making the baskets and answering questions. We chose to look at the old slave accomodation, but it would have been nice to have time to do both this AND take the tram tour.
The harbour tour was interesting - you get good views of Fort Sumpter and the Cooper River Bridge. We were also lucky enough to get several sightings of dolphins. It was quite windy on the boat - so even on a hot day it would be adviseable to take something warm to wear. A box lunch was included in the tour and this was tasty - we had a large turkey salad sandwich, fruit salad and a cookie. A token is also provided which can be exchanged for either a soda or hot drink. The boat does have a refreshment bar with a limited selection, but seemed reasonably priced.
Our bus driver did his best to keep everyone entertained - we had a DVD about Charleston on the way there and a comedy DVD on the way back.
The bus was filled with mainly older folk - realistically, there would not be much of great interest on this tour for children, especially younger ones. |

Enjoyable day! Bus was right on time! Carriage ride was fun and driver was very informative. Beautiful homes and gardens. Enough time to walk thru the market place. Boat ride of the harbor was fun. (sit on the right side of the boat as most of the hightlights that are pointed out are to the right side of the boat). Boone Plantation was interesting. Gardens were really beautiful. Lumch was just ok. |

Our bus driver was very pleasant. I wish we had more time in the open market ..maybe a shorter carriage ride. Boone Hall Plantation was the highlight of the trip. Would have liked more time there. The Charleston Harbor boat ride was very good and informative. Lunch was a big and delicious sandwich. I would recommend this trip to all. |

Just a little too much walking, I was told no walking except at the Boone Plantation, but not true, had to walk. The market plus another 4 blocks, bad for bad backs, otherwise very nice tour |

I would have liked a little longer time at the Boone Plantation. The carriage ride at Charleston was great. Our guide was very informative. The Harbor boat ride and narration was also done very well. |

Able to view high points of Charleston in one day including transportation. All the things you would want to do: carriage ride (city tour), harbor tour, and plantation visit without the hassle of trying to plan it yourself. Takes the worry out of getting to see the different sites in Charleston when you are not staying in the Charleston area. Convenient pick up place in Myrtle Beach. Didn't have to worry about driving: had comfortable tour bus with very informative driver. What's not to like? Instructions to Hard Rock Cafe were not clear. Told to go area between 21 and 29th avenues off 17. Would have been easier to say take 29th ave off 17, go down 2 lights...Hard Rock is right on your left. Several other people voiced this same concern. Other than the directions, the day trip was super and will be fondly remembered. Thank you for the opportunity to express my husband's and my views on the tour. |
