Chicago Locals Need to Take this Tour!
Mon, Jul 27  11:00 AM brettmackie Male 30-39 Local Family Without Children
I thought I'd find it a little odd touring neighborhoods i'd lived in for years, and actually, I did! It was odd that my old neighborhoods could seem so new and have so many surprises both in food and architecture. I HIGHLY recommend this tour to all locals and challenge those who think they "know their neighborhoods" to not find tons of new found knowledge and favorite spots to eat and shop in their hood. As for our guide, Caroline, she couldn't have been better...she gave the tour an extra douse of fun and really had a lot teach us about all the shops/restaurants and neighborhoods we traveled through. Can't wait to take the Bucktown tour...another neighborhood "i know well".

Thumbs Way Up for the Food Tour

I attended the Near North Food Tour with a 5 member work group. Another group in our department had previously taken the tour and were very impressed. I've lived in Chicago most of my life and thought that I knew a lot about the various neighborhoods we visited but, I was wrong. Our tour guide, Jennifer was fun, enthusiastic, and very knowledgeable about Chicago history and architecture. We enjoyed every stop on the tour....it's hard to decide which was the favorite....the chocolate shop, oil shop, spice emporium or the delicious pizza. I would recommend this to any food lover who would enjoy a leisurely stroll in a beautiful city with a lively, informative tour guide. Thank you!

The tour was interesting, the guide was knowledgeable and the food and drink was delicious. I visited places I normally wouldn't frequent and learned more about spices, oils and teas that I didn't know before. The pizza was wonderful. The walking was fine and it was fun to go by famous places and learn more about them.

We live in the Chicago suburbs and were spending a couple of days downtown and are so happy we choose to do this tour. Our guide, Kate, was outstanding. She was enthusiastic and informative. In fact, we enjoyed it so much that I want to get some friends together and do this again in the Fall. Also, we plan to do the other tour since this one was so outstanding.

Fantastic EVEN for LOCALS!

My boyfriend and I both loved the tour. He was a bit skeptical, but with in the first two stops he was having as much fun as I was. We are from a local suburb about 45 min. north, and we had never visited these shops, and are dieing to go back. After the tour was over, we walked back to 2 of the shops, (Spice House, and Tea Gschwender). Another favorite of ours was the Old Town Oil, balsamic vinegar and olive oil tasting, AMAZING! The only stop of the tour that both of us did not like, was called Catering Chocolate. Not that this store did not have its charms, but it was more of a catering business selling left overs than a shop that specialized in one item, (like the tea, spice, oil shops). It was the only store that we could not see ourselves going back to, both because of the high cost, and lack of enthusiasm from the owner. (Although the hummus and cheese where good.) I believe our tour leader was named Julie, or Jen, and she was great and very knowledgeable! Worth the money for a good day out in beautiful weather.

Tough for seniors
Mon, Jul 13  11:00 AM schbus Female 60-69 Local Group of Friends
The tour guide was very enthusiastic. We loved some of the placesbut were under the impression we would sit down a little more. My group was seniors and we would have liked to sit and listen and eat. We throught more food could have provided at each place like hors d'oeuvres. So we were a little disappointed in that. We felt it was worth $24.00 not $44.00. And it was a little too much walking for a person with an artificial hip. We all walk alot but I guess because there was no sitting we had a bad time. Could provide more restrooms stops also.
