Tastiest tour I've been on
Tue, Aug 14, 07   11:00 AM midgetmama Female 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
I managed to convince myself I was scheduled for 11:30 when the tour actually started at 11, and I received a call from Chicago Food Planet right at 11 to ask where I was. Thank goodness they did this, or I'd have been so far behind! They advised me to take a cab to the first tasting and that I would not miss anything. This worked out well. The group of about 15 people was easy to spot as was the guide, Tad. The food was all delicious, the tour was informative, and we saw some very beautiful neighborhoods. I've been craving a good potato pancake for about 15 years now, so that was a pleasant surprise, and I even finished my huge glass of tea even though I normally hate tea. The tastings were of very small portions, so I really did think I'd still need lunch after the tour, but by 9 p.m. when I went to dinner, I was still stuffed! The tour did end up being closer to 4 hours than 3. I don't know if I'd recommend listing the tour as being 4 hours though because then if it falls short, people will complain they didn't get their money's worth. However, if I'd have planned something else immediately after the tour, I may have gotten pretty annoyed. Maybe this isn't the usual, but it seems it may be by reading other posts. It was a hot and extremely humid day, but I still had a great time seeing new things in Chicago and finding such great specialty food shops!

The tour was very einjoyable, informative and fun. We found places we did not know existed and we have been coming to Chicago for over 20 years. The pace and the food/ drinks provided was nicely spaced and delicious. Would highly recommed this tour to see areas of the city and new places to eat.

Fun walking tour. Learned a lot about the history of the area. Guide was great. Went back to stores on the tour and purchased items. ( tea , olive oil, spices, chocolate ) Would recommend doing the tour first if new to the area. Gave us good ideas for future trips.

The best part of our trip!

This tour was the best thing we experienced in Chicago! Not only was it fun and entertaining for the day, but it also gave us ideas and insider tips for the rest of our vacation. We went back to most of the food places we visited on the tour and we visited several places that were mentioned by the tour guide throughout the tour. The tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable and the food was delicious and plentiful. Not only will we take the tour again when we come back, but we now have a few places that we will be returning to Chicago for.

PROS: We really enjoyed it. Learned some interesting details about Chicago. We had a great time. CONS: Alot of walking. Would have liked to have a couple more food stops. Would like to have spent more time towards Michigan avenue rather than going towards Lincoln Park

Best part of our Chicago trip

We had 17 people in our group for the Chicago Food Tasting & Cultural Walking Tour. At first, I thought that was too much, but as it turned out, was no problem at all. Tad was our guide and he did a great job in providing information about restaurants as well as other interesting tidbits about Chicago. Our three-hour tour lasted almost 4 hours. Quite frankly, I wanted more. I was sad when it was over. There were a good mix of stops, however, a little too much chocolate for my liking. The tour starts at Ghirardelli where we were given some chocolate samplings. Then hits a fudge factory about half-way through, and then ends at another chocolate shop (Ethel's). Even though we had 17 people on our tour, there was plenty of food for everyone to have seconds and thirds of each sampling. The second to last stop was at a local pizza restaurant where there was enough pizza for everyone - and then some! We had a lot left over. This was a thoroughly enjoyable tour. We walked about 3 miles in all - a fairly easy stroll. In the future I would like to see this tour extended to cover more of Chicago. A 5 or 6 hour tour covering 5+ miles with about 12 stops would be ideal! Why? Because when the tour was over it left us all wanting more.

We loved walking around the neighborhoods, getting the history of the houses, buildings, parks and restaurants. The food was a great mix of beverages, desserts, appetizers, pizza. Plenty of food. Lots of walking but the scenery was worth it. We have been to Chicago several times but have never takien this tour. It was definitely worth it. Nicki was great.

Disappointed in Food Selections
Fri, Aug 10, 07   11:00 AM suzannekoles Female 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
I enjoyed the tour in as much as the guide was knowledgeable and very pleasant and the neighborhoods visited were interesting. The tour group itself was friendly and enjoyable. I was a little disappointed in the food selections. I had hoped to get more of a feel of the cuisine of Chicago instead of spices, oils and vinegars and candy. The potato cake at the beginning was greasy (not a good choice) and the pizza at the end was cold and very dry; I think they could have made a better choice.

The tour guide was very knowledgable about Chicago, very friendly and very fun to be around. We learned a lot more than just about the food and the restaurants in Chicago. We learned about architecture, history, etc. We got to see parts of the city that we probably wouldn't have seen otherwise. The food samples were excellent and plentiful. Would recommend it to everyone!!

Great tour guide, but tour too long

We had a great tour guide, very informative and friendly. But 3 hours is a little too long. I would recommend shortening it to 2 hours to maintain everyone's interest. The food samples were NOT very good... except for the chocolate samples.
