Fabulous idea, but needs some tweaking

THINGS I LIKED ABOUT IT: The price was reasonable, the distance walked was about right, and the duration of the trip was good. The concept is wonderful; eating and then walking to another place to do some more eating. The guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The meeting place was perfect: near a nationally recognized landmark, in front of a chocolate store (how great is that?). The neighborhood history and the various building architecture styles that were pointed out were excellent. SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENTS: 1) DELI - We got a cooling, rather greasy potato pancake with no sour cream or apple sauce for dip. I suggest something more exciting at this, the first stop. Say, a pastrami and cream cheese roll with chopped green onions. 2) TEA - Here, I would like to see 3 or 4 small samples of different kinds of tea, rather than one large cup. Most didn't finish it; they dumped it out along the way. 3) CHEESE - There was one cheese stop; everyone loves cheese. Maybe expand upon this. 4) CHOCOLATE - Now, make no mistake; I love chocolate. But we had 3 chocolate stops, plus we started out with chocolate (at Ghirardelli's). That's too much chocolate (I didn't think I'd ever say that!), especially for those who may not share my love. 5) SPICES AND OILS STOP - Great! Keep these. 6) REALLY WEIRD STUFF - I suggest a stop that only the most adventuresome would like: Spicy Indian, or raw fish, or killer hot sauce, or black eel soup, or pig's-blood-cake, or something comparably nasty. It'd give the tour a full range and a point of base comparison. These criticisms are intended to be constructive--I've already recommended the tour to my daughter.

Enjoyed the tour, Nikki was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and fun. I do reccommend the tour. I did think we would have a little more eating.

A Super Taste of Old Town plus some

We met Tad at appointed time and then the fun began. Tad was very personable as well as knowledgeable of the city of Chicago and also of the establishments that participated in the Food Tour. It was a nice variety of tastes as well as details of the area. I had participated in a food tour in New York City in April. Due to my enjoyment of it, my husband and I elected to try the one offered in Chicago. My husband was delighted and I certainly was not disappointed. Thank you.

On a clear warm day, a group of friends and I took the Chicago Food Planet neighborhood tour with Shane as our guide. Shane had a great sense of humor and provided a running cultural and architectural commentary as we walked from place to place. The places were so interesting and varied. The business owners or employees who spoke to us were very cordial and informative. All of the food items sampled were exceptional. I particularly enjoyed The Spice House, (Steve gave a great presentation) the vinegar and oil sampling, and the toffee at The Fudge Pot was superb. I would highly recommend the tour to anyone who loves food and is interested in Chicago history.

Very much enjoyed the architectural part of the tour as well as the tasting at some of our eight stops. The tour guide (Shane) was very informative and the tour was not hurried. We were not able to purchase any items during the tour but we were all given maps and coupons to return to the business when the tour was over. It was a lot of walking so wear good shoes.

I have enthusiastically recommended this tour to my friends. It is a perfect birthday/anniversary etc gift. A fun AND educational experience. We were fortunate in that the weather was ideal and the guide excellent. A great way to spend the better part of a day.

too much chocolate and spices

We loved the walking part of the tour and the location, but we feel that the tasting part was short. If we had allowed it to be lunch, we would have starved...Spices, oil and vinegar, and chocolate are not what we expected, tho interesting. A bit more explanation of the areas would be good too. It covered a wonderful section of Chicago and that was great!

This is one of the best things we've done. We got exercise and had great food. It was wonderful to do a walking tour of Chicago - you see so much. Also, our guide was the best. He was funny and he really knew the area and the specialties in the shops and restaurants. My only complaint would be that we had no opportunity to buy anything. We will probaby go back to our favorite places. I've recommended this tour to everyone I've talked to.

Lots of walking, not much eating

We found the walk and information about Chicago interesting, but there were long stretches with little food. We thoroughly enjoyed the spice and oil shops, but they could not be viewed as a food stop. By the end of the tour we were ready to go find lunch, unlike tours we took in New York and San Francisco which provided interesting food as well as interesting information.
