A great tour

Not your ordinary tour. All of the stops had something unique about them. Visits to tea, spice and oil stores are different from what you might expect on a food tasting tour but are definitely worthwhile (these were our favourites). If you are a visitor to Chicago suggest doing this tour early in your stay. It shows you neighbourhoods you might not get to otherwise and tour guides provide lots of knowledge. It will also allow time to go back to shop at these stores...trust me you will want to.

My husband and I loved the tour. Arianna, the tour director, was absolutely first rate. She was extremely knowledgable and very articulate. She was great; she added so much more to the tour. Would recommend this highly to anyone. Thanks for a very enjoyable tour. Sue and Paul Marino Wallingford, CT

nakedly commercial, lack of other info

I feel bad writing a negative review because our tour guide was perfectly nice and the samples were tasty, but it basically felt like a 2 1/2 hour commercial for the restaurants and shops we visited. Very little historical/cultural information about Chicago or the neighborhoods we walked through and no memorable stories. For most of the tour, the guide just made polite chit-chat with people about the weather. The samples were perfectly fine--we got a sample-size sandwich, a glass of iced tea, a piece of chocolate, a piece of stuffed pizza, a bit of hummus and cheese, and also tried some oil/vinegar and different kinds of cinnamon. The hummus and cheese were pretty clearly just whatever the catering place had leftover and wanted to get rid of, but everything else was good. It just didn't feel like it was worth $40+, especially given that the tour itself wasn't that informative or entertaining (and then the tour guide asked for tips on top of it!). You can't shop on the tour and clearly the primary incentive for the participating shops is to drum up business (you also get coupons for all of them) so the primary thrust of the tour seemed to be to try to convince everyone to come back and spend money. Definitely not useful if you're either a) not going to be in Chicago long enough to do that or b) already have preferred sources of tea, spices, and oil/vinegar. Maybe another neighborhood/another tour guide would have been more entertaining? I definitely wouldn't do this again.

Entertaining and educational

We really enjoyed the walking tour and the various tastings. The places we visited were unique with quality products. They are places I probably would not have entered if it were not for the tour. I will be sure to stop by or order online now that I know how good they are. The information shared about the neighborhoods was also very interesting. Our guide did a great job. I highly recommend this tour to visitors and to Chicago natives!

Everyone should do this!

We're locals, from the north suburbs, but decided to "vacation" downtown in the city. We recommend this tour to everyone. It's an informative and tasty way to see the neighborhoods. I loved the stops we made, mostly local family businesses, very knowledgeable and passionate about their product. We'll return to all of them to shop. Great way to spend part of the day.

Great walking tour

My husband and I had a great time on the tour. It is a very interesting way to see parts of the city we wouldn't have ventured to on our own. I also liked that we learned a bit about each neighbourhood and business that we visited. I found the tea stop most interesting as it was most informative. Overall we were very happy with the tour.

Loved it ... and teenage son was happy too

Really loved this experience, even with a teenage son in tow! There were a few places on the tour we weren't sure we were going to enjoy so much ... tea, oil, spices. Turns out, those are the places we absolutely had to go back to later and do a little shopping. Nicki was a fun tour guide and we covered a large area we never would have seen without it! My husband and son wished there was also a chicago-dog tasting experience along the route, but I was fine without it! :) thanks all for the fun afternoon.

This tour was so wonderful and our tour guide Kate was enthusiastic and knowledgable. I just wish we had been able to do this on our first day instead of our last. We'll do it again when we visit Chicago again.

This was the highlight of a weekend get-a-way for my husband & me. We chose Chicago for the variety of entertainment options and this was, hands down, the most fun. Jessie was our guide and she was very knowledgeable, professional, and enthusiastic. She showcased the cultural aspects of the 3 neighborhoods and did a outstanding job in the 7 food establishments. There was plenty to eat. We didn't even eat dinner before the theater that night. I can't wait to go back to Chicago and take the Bucktown/Wicker Park Tour.
