A great way to find out about a lovey section of Chicago for a foodie. Our guide was enthuiastic, knowledgable and fun. He did everything in his power to make it an interesting and informative tour also ensuring that all our needs were met.
The tour did overrun by almost an hour, not that anyone noticed!
My daughter and I had just the best time.
We visited an interesting cross section of stores with the owners on site to talk to us in most cases.
The walk in between all the stores was lovely and we enjoyed learning about this section of Chicago. |

We had a great time on our tour of Chicago with our tour guide Nicki. We ate a lot of great food and had amazing chocolate from the 2 chocolate stores...luckily this was a walking tour so the calories don't count. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to find some great hidden gems of restaurants and shops off the beaten path and learn about Chicago and history along the way. |

I loved our tour! We took the great advice of scheduling it the first full day we arrived. The stops were so great because you got to meet the owners at many of them, and we learned so much about what goes into producing fresh, quality foods, oils, and spices! Our guide was sweet, friendly, and an interesting person. She made the time fly by with stories and bits of information. Despite the rain, it was very well worth doing! The walking was not overwhelming either. I'm in my 8th month of pregnancy, and found the pace and small breaks for snacks made it very manageable. This was one of the best tours my husband and I have taken!
*Loved the coupons, too! we went back to 4 of the "stops" later on our own and made good use of them! |

This tour was fun. It is a little misleading in the advertising though. We had fun, but thought the tour would include more ethnic food establishments.
One chocolate place would have been enough. We would reccommend this tour. If you are looking for a " food tour", don't expect to be eating your way through chicago.
There are stops at a spice house, a tea shop, and an oil shop. Only 2 real food establishments

I went on the tour with my mother - it was her birthday present. I am 35 years old, she is 72. We both thoroughly enjoyed the day! Being lifetime Chicago-area locals, it opened up a new world to us! Discover secret (and not-so-secret) gems of the city! It's an enjoyable outing no matter what your age or origin. Nicky (our guide) was enthusiastic and very knowledgeable. The tour was well organized. We highly recommend it. |

An easy walk through Chicago's Gold Coast and Old Town neighborhoods with a knowledgeable guide who gave us the inside dish on sites along the way like the original Playboy mansion, the steel-box house, and the Viagra Triangle. And the food! Not just nibbles, oh no, we're talking good-sized delish samples - enough to keep you moving right along. We enjoyed ourselves tremendously and give this tour a hearty recommendation. We'll be back again. |

I managed to convince myself I was scheduled for 11:30 when the tour actually started at 11, and I received a call from Chicago Food Planet right at 11 to ask where I was. Thank goodness they did this, or I'd have been so far behind!
They advised me to take a cab to the first tasting and that I would not miss anything. This worked out well. The group of about 15 people was easy to spot as was the guide, Tad.
The food was all delicious, the tour was informative, and we saw some very beautiful neighborhoods. I've been craving a good potato pancake for about 15 years now, so that was a pleasant surprise, and I even finished my huge glass of tea even though I normally hate tea.
The tastings were of very small portions, so I really did think I'd still need lunch after the tour, but by 9 p.m. when I went to dinner, I was still stuffed! The tour did end up being closer to 4 hours than 3. I don't know if I'd recommend listing the tour as being 4 hours though because then if it falls short, people will complain they didn't get their money's worth. However, if I'd have planned something else immediately after the tour, I may have gotten pretty annoyed. Maybe this isn't the usual, but it seems it may be by reading other posts.
It was a hot and extremely humid day, but I still had a great time seeing new things in Chicago and finding such great specialty food shops! |
