This tour was a highlight of our trip to Chicago. Our tour leader was knowledgable, enthusiastic, and absolutely charming. She made sure all participants on the tour were comfortable, especially one lady with a walking device who needed a chair to rest on at each stop. The selection of purveyors was a pleasant surprise - each one gave us a sense of the "only in Chicago" products they produced. I was smitten by the olive oil and balsamic vinegar shop, and I already have my order to email to them! We received tastes and demonstrations at each stop and were quite full by the end of the tour. I loved the historical notes on Old Town that our guide shared throughout the walk! I'd recommend this tour to anyone!

Interesting and delicious food tastings. Saw more of the area and learned more local architecture and cultural information than expected - a very pleasant surprise. Will definitely go back to some of the shops and will do the other CPF tour next time I visit Chicago.

It was a highpoint of our Chicago visit.

There were four of us and we loved the variety of places we went. Later in the week we went back to eat at a restaurant which was recommended on our tour --Bistrot Margot, which was wonderful. Whille there, even though it was pouring rain, we returned to the chocolate, oil and sspice stores for more purchases. Now I feel like I actually know the neighborhood. I have a slight mobility handicap, so I took a taxi from the sixth to seventh place and skipped the longest walk, but none of the food. The rest of the group walked. We both were pleased with our experiences.

Good variety of tastings and picturesque walk

One suggestion would be to add an additional 30 minutes to tour so that participants could buy items from proprietors - I took the tour on a weekday, the stores were not busy so this might have worked - personally, I had jam packed days so was unable to go back to the stores and I suspect others were in the same position - being able to purchase right then and there would have made the tour perfect for me

This tour was extremely interesting. Our guide was full of information and very upbeat and helpful. All of the places we stopped to eat were very delicious and the store owners were very helpful as well. The architectural stops on the tour were interesting as well, they showed you a part of the city you wouldnt have known about otherwise. Definately would reccomend to anyone going to Chicago. Next time we will definately try the other Chicago tour offered.

Light on the Food, Heavy on the Selling?

Despite the warnings at the start of the tour that we should supend and diets that we might be on this tour did not deliver in the food consumption department. Of the seven stops only four actually provided food (if you don't count licking spices or sipping olive oil as food consumption). And apart from the final wedge of gooey pizza all other tastings were just that: tiny tastings. We did get iced tea to drink, but only after what was a ten minute 'onfo-mercial' exhorting us to return to the tea shop to purchase teas and tea-making gadgets. Most of he food stops are not really culturally linked to the areas although by American standards most are long-established. Having said this I'd still recommend the tour. It was a good long and aimiable walk, the day was sunny and warm, our guide was cute and enthusiastic and as a regular visitor to Chicago I saw things (and tasted things) I had never seen or tasted before.

Entertaining and Informative

What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. Our guide was knowledgable, interesting and engaging. We never would have thought to go to some of the stores, but can't wait to return. We anticipated tastings, but didn't realize just how much information we would get about the food and the neighborhoods. The only disappointment was not having time to make any purchases, but that just encourages us to return to the neighborhoods for shopping and eating. We also liked getting suggestions for other neighborhood restaurants to try. We would highly recommend this tour for tourist, but probably even more for locals.

My husband and I enjoyed the tour. We had the fortune to go during an art festival, so that provided a bit more atmosphere. Nice to tour some shops that we wouldn't typically visit on our own. I was looking for a bit more "Chicago" in the tour, and the food I think was relatively ubiquitous -- with the exception of the pizza--but I did enjoy the walk and I enjoyed the neighborhoods. We probably never would have walked that way on our own - just no reason to do so, so I'm glad we took the tour. The guide was wonderful and the group was nice, as well. Overall, I would recommend to someone looking for something relatively laid back; it was a nice way to spend a few hours on a Sunday.

Had a great time and saw some really beautiful neighborhoods. I'm fairly new to Chicago and I like learning about the city. Got to sample some great food from local businesses and was introduced to some real gems I might never have found on my own. A great way to spend part of an afternoon!
